Different uniforms?

Just use your imagination and pretend they're wearing the Cage uniforms then.

What if they bring in updated Cage (or TOS) style uniforms in an episode on another Starship?

Ooooooooo!!!! This would be SO EXCITING!!!!

It is a bit too late for that. This is after the Cage. You may see them going toward TOS colors, but this is the cage era uniforms, they even went with a nod toward them.

However, the Cage era uniforms are what the crews ware in DSC, like it or not. This is how they dress and now what the cage era looks like.

Oh, like how the ST Klingons are really supposed to have forehead ridges.

It would just seem like a lame excuse for shoehorning in their horrible design choices. Not limited to uniforms, but ships and tools as well.

i'm looking forward to seeing what the heck cause those starfleet personnel get shredded and turned into a pretzel like that. Eesh.

The Cage uniforms thing can easily be head canoned. For instance, the Discovery uniforms could be the uniforms that Starfleet had been wearing for a while. The Cage uniforms were a trial uniform that only certain crews tried. Sort of like how DS9 had different uniforms from TNG before Starfleet adopted the look across the board. The trial was not put into full service and instead the trial uniforms were only used on ships that had been selected, like the Enterprise. Shortly after Where No Man Has Gone Before they were upgraded and put into service across the board as the TOS uniforms. I'm sure there are other ways of looking at it as well, like simply The Cage uniforms stopped being made because resources went towards other things, like the war effort, and older ships and starbases with the old blue uniforms got stuck with them.

The Discovery uniforms do not flat out break canon. Even the dodgy Klingon redesign doesn't yet if you think about it since we haven't seen all the Klingon houses. I think if Spock showed up with purple skin and three eyes, then that's when you can say canon has been truly broken.

We know starfleet has had different uniforms active at the same time before, why would this be any different?

Apparently we're going to see cool new away team uniforms or coverings tomorrow. Different than the Kevlar vests from the premiere.

Hope they still have the armour, something that always bothered me about the other Trek shows where they would beam down to a hostile planet wearing nothing but those Pyjamas.

Edit. Just season the other pics and they do

Why should they have two designs? They are not gonna put folks in sweaters. Why would a single ship be using sweaters and swade overcoats?

Because one is being phased in or out.

They are not phasing into 60s fall casural ware. We know the DSC uniforms have been in use since 2249. Its not gonna look 1960s, you are looking at the cage era uniform here.

You may see theme phase into TOS like colors, but you are seeing the uniform they have worn for near a decade.
