"Filthy Andorians"

I've never seen a Klingon wearing blue, or in a blue ship. Maybe they hate blue things? Everything is red or brown or green.

I guess the Blue Man Group isn't welcome on Qo'nos.

On the issue of do Klingons hate blue, I feel like noting Worf was married to a Starfleet officer who wore a blue uniform. And had a brief relationship with another.

If the Klingons hate blue, it would explain why they hate Starfleet on the DSC era.

You know...

Because...everything's blue and stuff.

Well, they do take mud baths, at least. From Enterprise's Babel One:
So did Worf.
Maybe the fact that they turned away from the path of conquest and war to peacefully cooperate and coexist with their Federation brethren is what makes the Klingons so disgusted with them.
That was my first thought as well.

He is not a true Klingon...see above about baths.

Singling out the Andorians in this manner might well have been deliberate on the part of the writers and possibly a clue about events to come.

Are Andorians singled out here?

We get a list of four items. "Filthy" there is Hollywood for "fucking" in how such a list would be capped ITRW: it applies to all four items, but is spat out with the last one. Only it won't be much of a spitting at such slow pace of delivery.

This is a very interesting point ... especially since there are clear references to "The Final Reflection" by John M. Ford in the first two episodes. In that book, published before The Next Generation aired, Klingons viewed the tokhe straave, or willing slave, with especial disdain. So the idea of a capable warrior species like the Andorians serving the Federation makes them literally tokhe straave, and contemptible. Singling out the Andorians in this manner might well have been deliberate on the part of the writers and possibly a clue about events to come.

I like that idea. It jives with a Klingon privateer's point of view in the Enterprise: Rise of the Federation novel Tower of Babel by TrekBBS's own Christopher L. Bennett:

Christopher L. Bennett said:
Tower of Babel[/I]]
Captain Lokog grunted acknowledgment as he studied the hemicylindrical vessel on the viewscreen. "Tell me about the Lorillians." He had come across a few at raIjul wa'maH and other local trade outposts over the years, but they had never seemed worthy of his notice.

"A weakling race," Vhelis told him from the sensor station. "They were jeghpu'wI' of the Vulcans, more or less." Lokog nodded, aware that the Vulcans would have used a less honest label for their conquered subjects--even before one of those subject races, Humans, had managed to overthrow Vulcan rule, take over their empire, and absorb the Andorians and Tellarites into it. Though the Humans also hid their conquests behind pusillanimous labels like "Federation" and "democracy."

In the Marc Okrand Klingon language, jeghpu'wI' is a term that means "conquered people" or "subject people." So yeah, if we accept the idea that the Klingons see the Andorians as a conquered people of the Humans with the "Federation" as an artifice to hide the true nature of the Human Empire, that suggests they may have special disdain for a race they viewed as being legitimate moral equals choosing to become jeghpu'wI' or willing tokhe straave. So to them, the Andorians may be especially worthy of disdain after the founding of the Federation, moreso than the other founding cultures.

Andorians always came across to me as untrustworthy, say one thing do another type of species, like you never know what they’re actually thinking. I think a lot of the Federation/Andorian relationship was built between Archer and Shran, because they respected each other to an extent... Andorians always seem to have a plan b or a get out clause in any situation. Under hand tatics and are sneaky. Filthy Andorians...

They name-dropped an Andorian colony being kind of close to where things hit the fan, and I'm hoping we see it. I wonder what they'll look like this time.

Weren't there some suspiciously familiar antennae in one of the early production teasers? I wouldn't be surprised to see them.

And, spoilers ahead for David Mack's tie-in novel:

Captain Georgiou's former first officer is Andorian, now commanding his own ship.

...I'm sort of looking forward to the next Trek spinoff to see if they will redo the look of humans next. We could certainly use some boosting in the cranium department - everybody else seems to dwarf us there.

They've redone the humans loads of times, especially up top. Beehives, mullets, perms, Shatner's rugs...

But always with the Starfleet Sideburns, which is pretty darn impressive. Especially with Picard and early Sisko... (And early Janeway!)

So this week one of the convicts on the shuttle at the beginning called Andorians "Scumbags." This show seems to have a thing for insulting Andorians.

The Andorians had a colony at Gamma Hydra six light years from the Binary Stars. Given that the Federation had just set up a new colony on the fourth planet in 2267-2268, it might mean this was abandoned due to the war or annihilated by the Klingons.

As to the "filthy" Andorians thing that's going around, maybe the Klingons can't respect a fellow warrior race being 'subjugated' by humans.

Going to make a prediction. Andorians are definitely going to appear in the show, and they'll be devious and untrustworthy, like Ferengi.
