good look at some discovery premiere klingons and their traditional and not so traditional wear (or vice versa).

also they're gray.
That brownish costume looks really good. I really don't like the pallid skin or lack o hair though. Makes them look like Remans.

I kinda had a 'WTF' moment when I first saw the redesign for the Klingons, but like "Discovery" as a whole, they've grown on me. I realized that the writers and producers choosing to update the Klingons was no different then the decision to more radically change them for their appearance in "The Motion Picture".
The Klingons aren't the only ones to have their appearance 'changed', albeit they were probably the most drastic, throughout the 50 years of Trek. All the major races, (Vulcans, Andorians, Romulans, Tellarites) have changed significantly, due to a mixture of both creative decisions and advancing make-up prosthetics. Admittedly, the fact that "Discovery" is changing the expected look while it's set in a gap of continuity is a bold move. It makes you wonder how much other races might change.

Have not read it at all but all they had to say is 'these Klingons are as diverse as humans are'.
Different topic - Another thing Humans do not speak 'Earth' or 'Terra' or even 'Sol' so I don't see why alien languages are named after their planet.

Languages are often named geographically, though. I think it's feasible that if an entire planet was unified, there would be some kind of constructed common language (along the lines of Esperanto), and it could be named after the whole planet.

But the Klingon language has the same name as the Klingon people, rather than being named after the planet Kronos/Qo'noS

TV/movie alien makeups always look a little weird under natural daytime lighting. These Klingons were designed to be seen on the dark Klingon sets.

CNBC: Jon Snow's costume from 'Game of Thrones' is made from a $79 IKEA rug
Designer Michele Clapton revealed in a 2016 interview at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles that several of the plush capes worn throughout the show, including Snow's iconic fur cloak, are made from affordable IKEA rugs.
EW: Star Trek: Discovery showrunners explain show's delays
We flew a costume designer to Switzerland to pick up the fabric for the Starfleet uniforms. Several items on our uniforms are 3D printed. Some of our sets can take over six weeks to make. CBS has given us the time and the money to make something the fans will find worthwhile.
