Yeah, if you need people to watch EPISODE 8(!!) of your show until they like it, it will be too late!
Review embargos are common. The Force Awakens was under one, so was Mad Max: Fury Road. This review embargo thing that has just come out that there can be no reviews until it airs is not filling me with confidence.![]()
Okay, a few things:
1) This is a guy defending his own work.
Yeah, the two are completely unrelated.David Mack didn’t work on the show, he wrote the first tie in novel.
That doesn’t change the fact he doesn’t work on the showYeah, the two are completely unrelated.![]()
You know what I meant. That doesn’t change the fact he doesn’t work on the show
Funnily enough, I'm waiting for something that doesn't scream Star Trek of old. It's pretty much all hanging on the story now. As it should, I suppose, but I was definitely expecting more of a clear departure from BermanTrek earlier on in the marketing process.I'm still waiting for something that makes me go, "ah! That's Star Trek!".

Any practical examples? That's usually a sign of something bad.
...The tone bein "grim'n'gritty-war" with lot's of 'splosions and klingon intrigue and scheming. It's just that some people don't like that tone. If I'm honest, I'd much rather have something charming, even a little lighhearted, fun, from my space opera. More action.-adventure than heavy war drama. Whatever you guys do, you won't be able to compete with Battlestar Galactica or Starship Troopers or Alien in the "hard-sf grimdark"-genre, and I find it misguided to even try that with a property like Star Trek.
...Choosing a fascist, brutalistic art style for the Federation...
...Except you'd expect something in the advertising to at least hint at the show's real tone and content in a meaningful way, so it's not unreasonable to have opinions based on advertising as long as you're not married to them before you watch the thing...

Mack's work is peripheral to Discovery TV and he is right, IO9/gizmodo is Clickbait. This is nice and all but I would expect praise from him even if DIS is the worst thing ever. He says it himself, he is biased.
There were embargos? Then how do you explain these sites:
