I like the new theme, don't see the need for the inclusion of the original theme elements, to be honest. They seem tacked-on.
Truthfully though, I was hoping for something more along the lines of SGU's soundtrack.

I've listened to it about a dozen times by now, and it just doesn't stick in the ear. Weird that CBS greenlit something as bland and uninspired as this.
I'm so happy to have heard it finally. After Faith of the Heart, I was willing to hear Russel Watson fart the alphabet and it would have been an improvement.
Sorry, a slight exaggeration.
I really like it anyway, and I think it fits well with the others. Who knows if it will grow on me as much as the other four series, but we've yet to hear it in the best way.

Yep. In the old days you had Robert Wise having the guts to tell Jerry Goldsmith his early TMP music, as pretty as it was, had "no theme", which caused him to go back to the woodshed and produce the single best Trek theme there is (better than TOS, IMHO). For a show that supposedly was delayed in order to make sure it hit a proper level of quality, this is a lapse.

It's an okay tune, but very generic. Maybe it might work better with something more visually interesting than people playing musical instruments.
I'm not sold. However, it's not in context and there's someone prattling over the top, so I've gone with 'undecided'.
I don't think they should have released this how they did, if I'm honest. My view would be release the title sequence, or a proper recording over a static logo, or nothing at all. This kind of half-release with bits of warm up, people talking, etc wouldn't sell the best of themes. Why make that the first time your audience hears your main title theme?

Yes.
If I click ahead to the actual music and just close my eyes, I find it very rousing (e.g., I find the string part to be full of potential energy that slowly builds). However, if I watch the entire video, including Kurtzman's introduction, I'm more "meh".
This will be my final update on the topic of various polls and reactions to the theme: It's a consensus, the theme is a hit. #StarTrekDiscovery's theme tune pays spine-tingling homage to the original-RadioTimes

At least it's not "Faith of the Heart". But on the other hand I can hum "Faith of the Heart".
Watching the raw orchestra recording and watching the whole integrated title sequence are two different things. It'll be instructive on the way things look and sound in the studio and on screen to many. In that sense, I'm glad they released it this way.
A good poll for something like this should use a Likert scale, which covers a spectrum of choices from extreme dislike to extreme like. But a tendency on TrekBBS is to post polls that are ambiguously cute and often make no sense. We should have had something like five options "Hate", "Dislike", "Neutral", "Like", "Love".
You need to be careful with those YouTube likes and dislikes. You don't know what the likes and dislikes are for. They might be for the music, but they could also represent people excited to hear something from the show. They just might be voting positively (or negatively) for any Trek news. They might be loyal supporters or haters who vote up or down just based on who is posting! You don't know why they're clicking like.
Well, I guess it's fair to say Rama will be Discovery's biggest fan. Not only have I yet to see him concede a single shortcoming the series has, but he openly challenges and and all criticism. When someone is so universally praiseworthy it just seems a little off-putting. Nothing is ever perfect.
This is exactly true, but there aren't many metrics to go on, especially close to real time, so these likes on videos about the subject at hand are about as good as it gets.
"Hate" is too strong imo, I'd go with "Stinks"
