Again, as already pointed out, Cosmos wasn't created as a comedy.
And again, I'll point out, that the original statement was that anything SM creates has that kind of humor. I pretty much negated that.

You "negated" a statement of any comedy by seth macfarlane being crude with examples of things that weren't comedies. And again, I'll point out, that the original statement was that anything SM creates has that kind of humor. I pretty much negated that.
Then why did you bring Cosmos back into the conversation with that statement? And again, I'll point out, that the original statement was that anything SM creates has that kind of humor. I pretty much negated that.

Imagine for a moment if he pulled back a bit and made something a little less juvenile.

Did you know that The Orville was a show with jokes that was written by Seth McFarlane?Your exact quote was:
"If you don't want fart and dick jokes don't watch anything by Seth Mcfarlane"
You didn't say "comedy".
Saying the word sperm does not make something pornographic. Honestly, that clip is actually pretty tame compared to some of the stuff on his shows. And going outside of McFarlane, I've seen worse stuff on shows like 2 Broke Girls. I'm honestly pretty amazed at times some of the stuff they've gotten away with on that one.Seems like both of you are arguing from an extreme caricature. Real life is neither the lofty TNG style nor the inexplicably FCC-approved pornographic humor of Seth's sandbox.
Nope. Because like I've learned in the Abrams forums, examples never change anyones minds. They just go on like nothing was posted.
Right, don't watch anything by someone known for dick and fart jokes and then get mad that they make those jokesYour exact quote was:

You're just being pedantic for no good reason. Pretty much everyone here knew what the original statement meant.
Abrams forums? Aren't you sure we didn't learn that lesson the first time anyone has ever stated a opinion and another person disagreed with it?
Jason
It's not even recent tv that has put out some pretty shocking stuff. I've recently been watching Married with Children and I'm constantly surprised with some of the things they got away with especially at that time.Did you know that The Orville was a show with jokes that was written by Seth McFarlane?

No, not really. Words aren't that hard to use properly.
You know reading this thread, I kinda want to see the first episode again. While I wasn't a fan of the dick jokes, I have to admit the stuff they were talking about made them feel like down to earth guys, people you would want to shoot the shit with or something. As the episode went on, these characters felt relate-able.
Well, to be fair, there's more to the Navy than "yes sir / no sir / permission to speak freely, sir." As I mentioned earlier, one of things that appealed to me the most about The Orville was the banter between Malloy and LaMarr because they remind me of the Navy, particularly how actual sailors talk and where their mindsets are at.Yeah...among other things I'm just pretty sick and bored these days with people playing "Space Navy" in media. "Yes sir / No sir / Permission to speak freely sir" blah-de-blah....
Unlike half a century ago we live in a culture where fifty year old men wear cargo pants and sandals to...everything. And then turn on the tube and fetishize actors with sticks up their Method butts mimicking the formality of a military culture that not one in ten of them have ever been within hailing distance of in their lives (well, unless they live below the Mason-Dixon Line. One out of two, then.).
One of the things The Orville has in common with Farscape and Firefly is throwing that stolid attitude out the window. The show can do that in a supposed "25th century military" precisely because it's coming at it all from a comic angle. That has got to be tremendously freeing for everyone involved, and I loved it immediately.
Come on, language, especially in casual conversation doesn't work that way. It's full of metaphors, allegory, short hand and jargon. No, not really. Words aren't that hard to use properly.
Trek cons, Usenet, this isn't anything new.

Sorry, I just can't take you seriously. You can't possibly believe that you're making a clever argument.
