New info.

Interesting thing, there is a map of the Federation/Klingon front that will change between episodes

Also one of the producers found Enterprise more limiting to the story they’re trying to tell then TOS.

The only thing that’s felt limiting is the era and time that we are telling our story, because you’ve got ‘Enterprise’…

I find that ‘Enterprise actually’ has made things the most limiting, because of some of the retconning that they did in certain ways. And we consider Enterprise canon as well in certain ways, and just as valid, and we’re always trying to kind of make sure that that’s taken into consideration.”

I wonder what retcons from Enterprise are limiting. The augment virus story perhaps?

So they're doing DS9's holo-communicator again huh?

...Although when they say "upgraded to holographic", I wonder if they mean someone standing in the room with you, or holographic the way 24th Century viewscreens are.

a section of the ship that also features a mystery room and a strange “reaction cube,” both of which details about are being kept under wraps.
Activate the Omega 13!

Canon 'in certain ways'..? Really wondering what he means by that...
I'm guessing it has to do with the Augment virus... maybe Fuller wanted to make his own story of how the Klingons got from smoothies to TNG era..?

Lots of new info. The volumetric video screens are unlike anything we've seen on trek TV. Good stuff

Seems "a new way to fly" might not be as metaphorical as we thought - a 'reaction cube'? Interested to know what that is. And it seems we don't have a chief engineer because Burnham spends quite some time there...

We've come so far with set design. Practical transparent screens. It's a great set.

Hmmm. A mystery cube associated with Star Trek. Why does this pop into my mind? :shifty:

Am I the only one who's a bit uncomfortable with a storyline where our main character starts a war that affects countless planets, kills milliions of people, and alters the state of the Federation as a whole where every science vessel and exploration crews are drafted as a war ship?

And the whole "resolution" to that shit being "we have to do peace again (you know, like what we destroyed first?)", and probably "stop the "dark, mysterious" Starfleet Captain Lorca from using genocide (with space fungi) against a whole race"? And that being her "redeeming" arc?

I really don't like that emphasis on war. DS9 already went way overboard with it. But they did that over the course of 7 seasons as a means against struggling ratings. DIS is starting with that shit. I don't want the entire, optimistic TOS-era retroactively being declared "the aftermath" of WWII in space.

I'm not uncomfortable, but I'm waiting for something in the story that looks intetesting.

I'm waiting for the practical transparent displays that they say will actually be commercially available later this year. Say what? I need two of those for my dual widescreen monitors at work. stat.

I do like that things such as the changes in Klingons are well-known by the producers and that they intend to explain a lot of if not all of the alterations... it seems that they are very well aware of what they are doing and trying to make it fit with what we already know.

Yeah, I was comfortable with Deep Space Nine.

I'm not uncomfortable with the idea and context, I'll just be disappointed if that what it turns out to be because it's just so derivative.

Though I'm hoping that it's limited to the trimmings. Between the show being called "Discovery" and all the chatter about "Hopeful future, Gene's vision, yadda yadda," if it turns out it is just about "War!," then there's much bigger problems. Because any series where the conceit and the concept are so far out of sync is doomed before it even starts.

Yeah, I was comfortable with Deep Space Nine.

Let's be real here: The war in DS9 was started by the Dominion. They drew first blood. And still, the writers went way overboard with the WWII-analogies. But on DIS, it's heavily implied that our supposed hero is the one who shoots first. Against advice and direct order of her Captain. Which leads to her being jailed (until Lorca pulls her out of jail for his own little nefarious purpose).

I don't know about you, but for me it's a massive difference wether our heroes got drawn into a war, or wether they themself decided to start one. Hint: I don't see one of those as "heroes".
