Scenes in CBS This Morning segment!

It's made from footprints on sand. Not exactly a permanent medium. Burnham wouldn't have said she thought they were going in circles if they were going to a planned destination. She thought they were lost and had accidentally backtracked.

One of the trailers has her pointing her phaser rifle at the sand and firing, as the Shenzhou leaves, the delta is burning with smoke rising from it.

So are her boots fitting with a superheated under layer around 400-500degrees?

Because that sounds like a serious design flaw.

Is there a screenshot or something of the delta in the sand? I'm just not seeing it in the videos I can find.

So, basically, they have communicators but the communicators can't reach orbit for some reason. And yet, the Shenzhou can see a little stamped-out delta shield from orbit despite what is shown to be a completely opaque cloud cover or sandstorm of some sort?
Hey they're using Sensors to see it (The same Sensors that can't seem to detect or lock onto and beam up Human lifesigns...:wtf:) ;)

I hope people realize that what is meant by 'sensors' can be anything from a active scan... to a telescope.

This is the instrumentation Federation starships carry around, and point at planets:

Tricorders and so on don't just know bio-readings at any distance in every condition.

I.E. if a layer of atmosphere is scattering an active sensor beam, visible light might still pass it just fine.

Hmmm. I saw what I thought was blowing dust or sand as part of that aerial delta shot -- i.e., I didn't think it was smoke.

It looked more like smoke, I'm trying to find a screencap but Trekcore won't cooperate right now.

The delta is seen in this video at about the :30 mark

That reminds me of a DC comic from the '90s in which Kirk was stranded on a planet back in time and spent the rest of his life making a giant Starfleet delta from local red-colored rocks as a signal.

Yeah, that was my thought too. Issues 62-63 of DC's second TOS volume, "The Alone" by Kevin Ryan, Rod Whigham, and Arne Starr, Aug-Sep 1994. A 5-year-mission-set fill-in that was the first story Ryan did for the comic before taking over as the regular writer with issue #75 (and moving it permanently back to the 5YM era when it had been post-ST V for most of its run).

How about we wait and watch it instead of wasting all this bandwidth discussing things?

I'm all for discussion, but this happens all the time - trailer for a movie comes out, people discuss it to death, oh everyone was wrong all along.

It's pointless to argue about what happens in the scene when we can actually find out by just waiting a few weeks.
It's even more pointless for you to try and direct the content of this forum which by your logic should not exist at all until after the show airs. If you're here before September 25, 2017, you're here to comment and speculate on the work in progress.

What's bio-readings have to do with it?

They've got communicators that send out presumably fairly strong signals. So their "sensors" can see a drawing in the sand through a storm, but they can't capture any signal from a communicator?

So many kb's, that could have devoted to a cat gif, you monster. :p
