Yep, totally different from the utter realism of the likes of The Prophets and Apollo found on Star Trek... :p

I still haven't decided if I'm going to pay for streaming or not. It will be interesting to see how much of a cliffhanger the first episode is and if it will draw me in to want to pay.

I hope DSC and CBSAA aren't married to each other until death do they part.

Tony, Mary, and Sue across the street aren't going to have CBSAA just to watch DSC, whereas they might watch it if it popped up at after they finished watching NCIS. Fans will watch however they watch. Non-fans, or people who just don't care, won't. No one can change that anymore than they can change that we have sunrise and sunset.

Maybe CBSAA catches on and more of the general audience eventually catches that way. Who knows.

Exactly. No one knows. CBS is trying to branch out and nothing is wrong with that.

Nor did I say there was. I'm dead-neutral on CBSAA. I can honestly say I'm of the mind-set of "wait and see".

But I also personally hope that seasons of DSC became available on Netflix in the US after a certain point. They probably already have something in place whether it's been said or not. DSC seems like, based on being a season-long arc, that it would be perfect for binging as a series on Netflix. I'll burn through a season of Orange Is the New Black in one day. Anyone who knows me IRL knows not to disturb me the day a new season of it is released.

Of course, the same can also be done on CBSAA as episodes accumulate.... but anyway, I'll be watching Discovery through legal means. Whether or not it's CBSAA, or (eventually) Blu-Ray/Amazon Prime, I haven't decided yet. I already pay for episodes of Halt & Catch Fire and Better Call Saul through Amazon Prime and I'd gladly do the same for Discovery. Not much of a jump for me.

If I like what I see of the premiere on CBS, I'll probably go the CBSAA route. If I don't, then that's that.

Why is CBS All-Access charging me tax when no other streaming service does?

Many states started implementing sales tax on online services due to the success of Netflix. Not all of them are doing so now, but it's become a 'thing', so if you aren't being taxed for using an online service, you will be in the near future.

Yes, I believe that started with Amazon and has been increasing over the years.

What @cylkoth said, plus, CBS actually has a business presence in your state and probably even in your city/town (if you live in one), so they're probably even less eager to run afoul of all of the relevant tax authorities than the other streaming services.

So far CBSAA seems what I expected. A little later I'm going to check out some trek episodes.

the debut's gonna have to sell me, based on what i've seen so far no dice, I skipped several seasons of Voyager and the last two of Ent, first run, and suffered no ill effects , missing DSC which at the moment looks to be potentially irritating , if not outright infuriating, will likely cause no appreciable discomfort

Why would a TV show infuriate someone?

I feel kind of sad for the 5% minority of purists who are boycotting for whatever misguided reason. :( Netflix has gone and totally destroyed their little fantasy world.

Unusually I'm finding myself in agreement with a fanboy YouTube video.

I was agreeing with it too, but I don't consider New BSG a hopeful series, by any stretch.

Hmm, I would say that maybe 2005-06 to now is the current golden age. My long running best scifi ever TV list changed very little up until the last few years. I took a lot to get me to change the top 10 when something deserved it.
