I'm excited to get some more production info from the staff.

Discovery headed to Fan Expo Canada Star Trek: Discovery will be making an appearance at this weekend’s Fan Expo Canada, which is held in Toronto, conveniently located where Discovery is shot. On Saturday there will be two specific Discovery related panels. At 11:30AM in room 701B there will be a Production Design panel with some of the key people from the show’s design team. TrekMovie.com has been asked to provide some questions for the team and we will report back what they had to say.

I lived an hour away from Toronto for almost 5 years and never once went to Fan Expo.

I wanted to, but never got around to it.

I haven't been to a convention since 1994. With Discovery coming out I'm considering one.

I was going anyways, so this is a nice treat (though very last minute, my days there were packed and planned as is haha)

I've never asked a question at a panel though, I generally just observe and take it all in.

So I never got a chance to make it to the panel. Everything I had scheduled around it did not adhere to the shedules (screw you, Jim Lee) and Saturday was not one of the better days there for us. Without exaggeration, I got more done Friday in the last 10 minutes of the convention than I did all day Saturday.

Fascinating that they are using the same sets on both Shenzhou and Discovery. I mean it makes sense, but from what we've seen so far you could've fooled me. Apparently the transporter rooms are redresses of the same set, at least. Willing to bet that they each have their own bridge set, though..?

They do mention specifically the need to switch back and forth It may just be an element of the shooting schedule requiring them to film scenes on either ship nonlinearly, or perhaps the apparent demise of the Shenzhou as seen in the trailers isn't so certain..?

Flashbacks, lots and lots of flashbacks.

With the budget they have, and the amount of sound stages - I had assumed both ships would have their own sets. It actually makes me feel a bit better about the production knowing they are having to do the same tricks as TOS, TNG, etc with set re-dressing.

Also the idea of moving closer to TOS is nice, and I look forward to a conscious approach to making this design fit into canon (where as before, I felt it was being ignored)

Meh, they're talking about adding some other colors to their blinking light displays. Trek is saved!!

The bridge sets are two separate sets. They have 6 soundstages. So if they're reusing some, it saves money but also shows how big the other sets are.

What demise? I'm hearing the Shen lasts all season.
