Trekyards scaled their model* based on the promo image, and if the scale is even remotely close, Discovery is pretty small. Because it has super long engines, it is longer than Connie, but it has way less volume. I hope this is correct.

* (not 100% accurate model, but close)

good. i'm surprised by the thinness of the saucer edge in the promo, it's a lot sleeker than i was expecting.

I suspect that art exaggerates the size of the figure in order to make them visible on the saucer edge/to make the saucer recognizable as such relative to the figure. But, of course, we'll see.

looks about right given the size of the windows. unless they're kelvin timeline windows in which case they're gigantic bay windows and she is way too large.

It seems that the saucer rim is just one deck. If that is true, the scaling can't be far off, unless indeed it is Kelvin universe scaling and there are just huge windows on every second deck...

Yeah. In the 2016 Comic-Con teaser, the Discovery had 2(!) decks on the edge of the saucer section, ,which would have made her ridiculously big compared to the classic Enterprise. Now the edge of the saucer looks a lot more like the one of the Franklin, down to the rim with the windows. Which scales the whole ship waay down. Which is good IMO! Fits much better compared to the good old Connie.

Only problem: The shuttlebay. It's about as tall as the delta wing, with a little bit extra on the bottom. Which would be way too flat. Seems like the shuttlebay will again be larger on the inside than on the outside. Which is an old Trek tradition...

One thing of notice: The lack of detail in the windows. The cgi Enterprise model, which is 16 years old by now, had pictures of the sets behind the windows. Hell, even the Voyager model had more than just lit-up squares! A problem the Shenzhou also had in the trailers. I think the last time the windows on a starship were this ridiculiously empty was during Insurrection, when Trek was relying purely on CGI for the very first time.

That being said: I love the composition of this shot!

i'm assuming the lack of detail in the windows here is a stylistic choice for the poster and that the CGI we've seen in the trailers has been mostly preliminary.

given the fact that the recent films have all shown the interior of the enterprise through the windows - including people looking out or even running around within - i'd guess we'll get something like that with discovery too.

with shenzhou's underslung bridge and large window/view screen, it would be silly if they didn't render interior detail. and we have seen that shot of michael as the camera zooms in through the glass. so yeah.

I'm leaning towards this as well. Like I said earlier, if the saucer was in scale to the figure, there wouldn't be enough room on two buses to show that it was a saucer.

If it is not in scale, how you assume the deck layout to work then? If it is in scale, the arrangement of the windows makes perfect sense for a single deck saucer rim.

One deck high at the edge?

Maybe. But the position of the windows in the image is consistent with two decks if the artists are using the TOS Enterprise as a reference:

Are we a hundred percent sure that's an actual photo of the saucer of either ship? Looks like it could be more of an artist's rendition.

Conversely, which reference shows those "three rows of windows on the upper inside of the saucer", whatever that is?

We still haven't seen much of the "real" ship, and I guess it's theoretically possible we have seen nothing of her yet, what with a blurry two-second cameo in a trailer being an easy thing to ignore in favor of a more refined take. But these big paintings on the sides of buses are the closest thing to "revealing" so far. Although poster art has generally not been all that accurate a predictor of looks, not when it comes to things done in postproduction, hairdos, or CGI creations.

For the beauty shots involving the bridge - of course. But for all the regular windows?
I do hope so, but I wouldn't be too sure about it.

This series seems to have A LOT of cgi enhancements - even the bridge consoles of the Shenzhou! Almost every shot of the trailer was in some way enhanced by CGI. It is entirely possibly they decided for the CGI to be "quick and dirty", but in exchange for a massive amount of vfx, instead of previous Trek, which often opted for only one or two new vfx-shots per episode, but those of the highest quality (available at that time).
