More Star Trek TV shows are "totally possible" - Kurtzman

My first choice would be a post-Nemesis show with cast members from TNG, DS9 and VOY, followed by a 'Lost Era' show set between the Movie era and TNG. Maybe a refitted Enterprise-B with a new crew? The Excelsior? Lots of room for storytelling here! This was a key rumour for Discovery.

As for animation, maybe in a decade or so's time that could be a way to revisit TOS? A Phase II - type thing?

 

I would be very happy if Discovery is popular enough to spawn some spin-offs. I don't think it will happen, but it would make me happy.

 

I would be most natural to fill CBS Access with more Star Trek for when Discovery isn't on. A logical thing to do.

 

An Enterprise era follow up picking up where Terra Prime left off, condensing 6 years' worth of events into a History Channel-style documentary.

It is, but only if they can ensure the quality of the dialogue, stories and characterisation are first rate. If we end up with the old style Star Trek factory churning out 50 odd episodes a year on a shoestring, things'll start going wrong pretty quickly.

The next series will probably be set ten years after DIS, featuring a young captain named Kirk taking over a ship called Enterprise with a half-Vulcan first officer who happens to be Sarek's son.

 

I would 100% watch a re-rebooted TOS series. Maybe they'd be brave enough to go further and genderswap some of the main cast (and knowing CBS, continue to insist it's the Prime Universe)

 

They'll probably, finally go forward with that Gary Seven spin-off.

 

While I would love to see another animated show about the original crew, not having so many of the actors with us anymore and thus not having original voices would bother me. That's why I love the animated show from the 70s. It may have its issues, but it sounds just fine.

More STAR TREK shows should be more than "possible" ... let's try for "likely"!!!

There is a real opportunity to make STAR TREK so much more and better than its ever been. Look, I don't have all the answers, but the tried & true formulae of 1 - and only one - STAR TREK show on the air for a decade, or until we run it into the ground doesn't seem to make the grade, in the Here & Now. When you say STAR TREK, even if people never watch the show, they still know what you're talking about, somehow. I'd like to see CBS really take advantage of that and have fun with it. If they're enjoying their output, the audience is going to, also. Just don't have it all be so one-note, that's all. Shake things up, go for a different texture, or flavour with every offering. Make it worth watching, by getting excited about your ideas. Bring real Artists to the table, people who've got vision and believe that there are still new frontiers in entertainment, today. I'm so sick of all these cougars on TV bitching about eachother, like gossiping old ladies and passing that off as programming. I'll go to a Family Get-Together, if I want to see that shit. Let those with talent explore their imagination and give them the juice to let loose! Keep the outlook positive, that's all I'd axe. The future is cool as all hell and there's room in it for everybody. That's got to be the message, if you're slapping the STAR TREK label on it.

They need to do an animated or CGI post TMP "Phase II," post V, or post VI series with Shatner and the guys that are still around. Chris Doohan can voice Scotty and voice actors can be found to play Spock and McCoy.

 

I read somewhere that a new show IS on the cards. However, unfortunately for us it won't be broadcast to mainstream TV networks. Only a selected audience like 2-5 million! Sucks.

 

They would be stupid to not start making more Trek shows. From what it seems they now have an entire streaming platform that owes it;s success to trek. I personally want them to do enough shows that one episode of some kind of trek comes out every week until I'm dead. Some will be great and some will suck.

 

I suppose that is one way to look at it. Just having one show on the air certainly doesn't mean that quality will automatically be higher. I think the main thing that would be required for that work though is almost completely seperate writing staffs and producers for each series, to avoid burnout.

Every future Star Trek series will probably feature their own era: Wherever it may be (The Lost Era, post-Nemesis, pre-Enterprise, even between Enterprise and Discovery), it will have new uniforms, new ship designs, new everything. This is the case in the past for every series except Star Trek: Voyager (which featured DS9 uniforms, but left new stuff for the Delta Quadrant they were located in), and will likely be the case in future series. They're not going to use the movie turtlenecks or the All Good Things... uniforms, or even the USS Kelvin uniforms. The production designer may take inspiration from one or more of these, but otherwise, they will be pressed by producers to determine their own unique, trademark style.

So, if you're having a problem with Star Trek: Discovery's supposed lack of stylistic cohesion with the Pike era and early Kirk era TOS, then you ain't seen nothin' yet.
