That idea comes from their unwillingness to accept anything new and different, and anything new and different is doomed to failure in their eyes.
I'm really just totally exhausted hearing the "to boldly go" phrase for the last 50 fucking years. Not just in Star Trek, but in car commercials and other crap as well. It's a horribly overused phrase and Discovery is resurrecting it without originality or freshness.

I can't wait to get past the next two months of bullshit promos and other misleading horseshit and actually get to see the show.

I managed to miss that one. Looking at the wiki I see they have Runabouts.
I like the "Boldly go..." thing. And I like Courage's Star Trek fanfare, and the rest of his theme. 
James Cromwell did not split the infinitive during his cameo appearance in "Broken Bow." I get a little kick out of the notion that Starfleet's been misquoting God Himself for a couple hundred years.

It feels like a nice update to a well-used phrase.
It's a reimagining. It got replaced with "You started a war, we are creating a new way to fly "! Or something. 
I like that part as well. It feels more personal.
Not just personal, but self referential. Nice touch that I honestly didn't think would generate as many comments as it had!
Yes I can't believe the anger I was seeing in some groups just by changing it to "we".
To be honest, I've unfollowed a LOT of groups over the past week. I just can't deal with the level of petty arguing for the sake of arguing I'm seeing on a regular basis. My ten year old comes up with better arguments than I've read from grown men!
I'm just forever thankful that I'm part of a fan club filled with normal, optimistic people. They've kept me relatively sane!

I could be wrong, but my impression from the interview wasn't that Seth was taking a pot shot at Discovery (though he's clearly under the impression that it's darker and less optimistic, as am I when I see the trailers) but that he was taking a shot at post-Enterprise Star Trek (i.e., the Kelvin Timeline) which is definitely a darker, less optimistic universe.
Hopefully Discovery will have the underlying optimism we expect from Star Trek. I'm looking forward to finding out and I'm looking forward to seeing Seth's new show.

Yeah the amount of negativity is just amazing and sometimes over very minor things like I know several people still bent out of shape that discovery is using the delta symbol - it is what the general public associates with star trek so of course they are going to use it.
