The four guys are all actual geniuses. And in typical American sitcom fashion, the women treat them like they are all fools. The worst offender here is Bernadette, who emasculates Howard at every turn now. Howard has no say about what he does with his own house, Howard has to throw his Tardis away, Howard isn't allowed to become an astronaut.. sickening. If my wife treated me that way, I would divorce her.

The original unaired pilot featured Gilda, a geek-girl friend of Leonard and Sheldon. It is mentioned in passing during the episode that Gilda slept with Sheldon while both were at a Trek convention.

Howard was allowed to become an astronaut. It was pretty much pure torture for him, though, and he went a tad looney up there.

Yes, I know he was "allowed". Even though they weren't even married at that point, he still had to have Bernadette's approval, and she initially said no. Amy had to shame her into changing her mind.

My point is, a staple of the modern American sitcom is to have the boyfriend/husband/father be clueless and dopey, even on this show, where almost all of the characters are geniuses.

That's been a staple since the Golden Age of TV and before that radio.
Been awhile since I saw those episodes, but I don't recall it coming across as Bernie allowing Howard to go into space. She worried and frightened, as any SO would be. Howard had his misgivings as well, and I think was looking for a way out himself.

After and endless stream of forgettable MPDGs played by unforgettable actresses, I hope they finally do better for Raj.

I rarely found it funny for a long while before I stopped watching and that was quite some time ago.

I liked the character development (Sheldon socializing more, Howard having a wife etc.) but the writing got a bit silly, like they didn't really have anything to say...

I think Amy is by far the worst offender. She's always insulting the things that Sheldon is into. Calling the tv shows he likes "cheap sci fi", refering to his comic books as "childrens' cartoons" and collectibles as "childrens' toys"

As for Howard...it was mostly his mom who "forbade" him from becomming an astronaut...Bernadette was just concerned for his safety.

I think Raj has great qualities, but is spoiled and needy.

In this regard I'm always shocked that the least offender is Penny. She's gone to conventions with Leonard, she's tried to watch some shows he likes and movies, and while she lovingly teases him she never flat out insults him for the things he likes like Amy does.

I suppose Howard is willing to put up with a lot because when he is not looking in Bernadette's eyes, he's got quite a nice view.

It's still a decent show - I get a handful of chuckles when I tune into a new episode.
Beat's a lot of the crap pushed on us by network TV.

    MPDG?

Though with his most some of his most recent relationships (which for the rest of would pretty much be two timing, I really didn't feel sorry for him when it came apart at the end.
