Actually it was LucasFilm's idea. It was planned even before Disney bought them.

I had not heard that Lucas was planning to get rid of the eu. I figured that came once Disney decided to do new movies

Lucas was planning out post ROTJ stories to help make the deal sweeter, and that also included ignoring the EU.

This info came from Pablo Hidalgo over at the story group.

Anyways, even so, George Lucas never considered the EU canon, he just allowed it to exist. Though, he would sometimes pluck ideas from it that he liked.

So had he made post ROTJ stories, you can bet he would have ignored it.

No, it's just a trivial and wrongheaded demand dressed up as a "challenge," and no one was interested in it.

Boo hoo. Something that blew my mind was the bridge set of the galaxy quest. In the "episodes it looked old and campy. Yet the exact same set just with a different paint job looked completely modern.
The uniforms are probably the last thing that needed revision. Maybe a bit of tailoring, but they're so iconic there's really no reason to change them. The Beyond uniforms just come off looking like a bad cosplay from before people had VHS.

The Galaxy Quest Bridge had little resemblance to the TOS bridge.

I thought Beyond gave it a nice updated look while keeping to the basics. The ST09 wasn't too bad either but i really disliked the delta pattern all over the place.

Agreed. That's my one pet peeve over the DSC jumpsuits.

I don't think it was tacky; but it was clearly made for HD rather than Starfleet. Would have been better to use a patterned fabric IMO

That the TOS uniforms are so iconic is exactly why... in my mind.. they needed to be different for DSC.
