Will Discovery be on Netflix after season 1 airs?

I wil watch it on CBS All Access but really looking forward to a Blu-Ray release. Yeah, I'm old school.

Same, but mostly because streaming isn't quite up to the quality of Blu-ray (never mind if they release 4K discs, which is less likely).

I seem to have issues with things like Netflix. Sometimes it has problems loading. Plus, things come and go on n streaming services so I'd rather have the DVDs so I can watch things when I want to.

I just hope they release discs at some point. We can no longer take it for granted that any particular show will eventually get a disc release.
there will be a disc release, a lot of Trek fans are old geezers who loves them some of ye olde physical media

This show will eventually make it to both US Netflix and Amazon. How long it takes to get there is anyone's guess.

This. I'm Dutch, and trust me, compared to the rest of the world, the US gets basicly EVERYF***INGTHING on Netflix. I have friends from the US online who are baffled when I tell them all those latest new movies aren't on Netflix here.

With some stuff, sure, it will take a while. BUt you can bet there's a line in the contract with CBS that says the US Netflix will stream Discovery at some point. Just not straight away. Maybe just after season 2 starts, or right before.

Never had that issue. What I do have, and I talked to both Netflix and Samsung about this, is the following. I have a 4K tv, with Samsung Smart TV functions. Sometimes, when I watch a show or movie, it takes a few seconds to a minute to go to HD. Except for 4K stuff. Turns out, that all the HD stuff is on different servers than the 4K stuff. The Netflix app on the tv is set to realize it's a 4K tv, so connects to the 4K servers straight away. It's weird, but that's how it works. So, it needs to shift to the other servers. Perhaps, depending on how you stream, you have a similair issue.

Another is and always will be speed. I know a lot of people that use ChromeCast, or use any form of streaming that involves Wifi. They will say my landline is fast enough for HD Netflix. Wifi however, is ALWAYS slower than your landline. I have a 150mbit landline, but wifi is between 40 and 50. Now, that 40 is more then enough for HD. BUt let's say you have a 20Mbit landline, but stream over wifi. It's very possible you simply do not have the required bandwith to stream in HD then.

Same here. Netflix has some great TV shows in the UK but less than the US, and our movie selection is best described as the "Dubious Sequel Collection". Got a favourite major blockbuster? You can watch its ill advised second installment on Netflix now!

QFT!! I still love Netflix, for the awesome shows it has. But as for movies...... Meh. Every now and then we hit gold, like when all the MiB movies were added twe weeks ago. But usually, they're removed after 6 months.

It's the random removals that irritate me most about Netflix. All the Stargate shows are on Netflix? Oh no, now they're not. Now they are! Oh, no, gone again.
It's one reason why I haven't sworn off physical media for shows and movies I actually want to be able to watch on demand.

No, it will not be on US netflix, that would be ridiculous, they're directly competing with Netflix in the US, CBS wants people to suscribe to their service, they will not give one of their exclusive shows to their biggest competition.

CBS and Netflix are working together for Star Trek Discovery, so Netflix can 'broadcast' Discovery worldwide. CBS is also aware that after a year or so, it really doesn't matter wether or not Discovery is also on Netflix US, atleast not the older seasons. You can bet that Netflix has already bought the rights to stream Discovery after a year or so. CBS will still make money from season 1 of Discovery that way. That's the way these things work.

One of the reasons I went for Netflix, was Stargate. By the time I finally got around to a subscribsion, SG1 was already removed from Netflix Netherlands, and Atlantis followed a months later. BSG is gone. We do have all the Star Trek shows now, that's good. But as for really good scifi shows from back then, we have none.

And that's why I still buy DVD's & Blu-Rays. All these streaming sites will have movies come and go. This past winter Netflix had the Superman movies. I do own the DVDs but it was nice to have them on Netflix...for about two months and then they were gone.

It isn't exactly a random removal, its based on how long Netflix bought the license for and whether they decided to renew it, or if the IP holder wants to give it to them again.

Some times local TV channels get the licence and Netflix can't get it because of an exclusivity agreement.
That is why there are regional differences.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is a co-production between BBC America and Netflix. Similar to the plan for Discovery and CBS, it is exclusively on BBC America in the US and on Netflix everywhere else. It's been 10 months since the first season completed, and it's still not on Netflix in the US. I wouldn't hold my breath on that changing for either of these shows.

IIRC, it has made it to Hulu here in the US.

It seems random to the user because Netflix doesn't publicize when stuff will be removed.
