Is it pronounced the same as the traditional male name?
Never heard the name as a female variant.

That's Michael Steele, bass player and singer for The Bangles. They had the number one song of 1987 ("Walk Like An Egyptian"), so if you're my age, you've heard of 'em. Though you probably crushed on the lead singer, Suzanna Hoffs, just like everyone else, myself included. ;)

Maybe Burnham was one of those kids who were mean to Spock which made him go off into the desert with his pet Setlat.

Spock also omitted any mention of a half-brother as well. He wasn't exactly forthcoming with personal stuff.

]It's not just Spock -- pretty much NO one wants to talk about their personal life at work!

Spock: doesn't mention adopted sister, half-brother, parents, or arranged wife and Pon Farr

Sulu: doesn't mention daughter for 20+ years

McCoy: doesn't mention ex-wife

Chekov: mentions non-existent brother to fuck with people (and because he's being controlled by an alien)

Deep Space Nine actually did a fairly good job of not pulling family members out of nowhere. Closest we got to a surprise reveal is that Jadzia had a sister and so did Sisko though at least Sisko's sister got mentioned twice.

Jason

Or rather, none of those people mention or talk about their families while Balok the giant head is farting in their general direction.

I really do not see what the big deal is about another unknown relative for a character who never talked of family and lived about 200 freaking years

And like Kurtzman said, be patient.. I'm guessing there will be an explanation, though there need not be one in my book... she's not a blood relative, and Spock never mentioning her, doesn't mean she was never there...

Are you talking about in a deleted scene of ST2009 or what?

Yes but you can see him as Johnny. I think it's possible to figure it's the same brother only he has a different name in the Kelvin Universe. I'm surprised you wouldn't find many people with different names. If their is a alternate world were I am in it I could see my parents going with a new name like Bill or Tom. I doubt I would Jason throughout the multiverse.

Jason

Well, since Sam would have been born before the timeline split, he'd still have the same name.

Samuel Johnson Kirk, aka Johnny K to his bro!

In all seriousness, we don't know that Prime Kirk didn't call him Johnny in their youth. We only hear the name Sam in the context of adulthood (and in the context that he's dead, at which time you don't really use childhood nicknames!).

And then he tells David he "never faced death like this", having also lived through Kodos the Executioner's reign of terror!

Every death though is like that. How I felt about when my Grandpa died is different from how I felt when my Grandma died. I also suspect that Kirk was closer to Spock than his brother.
