Star Trek Online is allowed to use stuff from ST'09 and Into Darkness (but not Beyond), and they're solely a CBS licensed product.
So I'm not entirely sure how it works.

The Official Encyclopedia also has stuff from the movies.

I'm guessing they just can't make movies or live action stuff in that universe.

Do you actually experience emotions other than hate and anger?

Seriously I can't think of a time I've seen you post anything which isn't about how much you hate someone or something.

It's nice to see Trek on TV/streaming finally, really moving into the 21st Century.

I'm not talking about just this forum Emillia, I'm talking about the fandom. And not just Star Trek. Star Wars, Supernatural, Doctor Who, Game Of Thrones. People calling themselves fans, but all they post is complaints and whatnot.

DS9 didn't try to explain anything. They just made it a nice little fourth wall / meta layer joke. And it would have been best, ENT had left it this way. Like this, klingons would have been always bumpy and the TOS smoothies would only be a budget and makeup related anomaly. This way, a lot less fans would have a problem with a DSC klingons. (I myself don't have a problem with them)

There's criticism and then there's what's happening in so many many fandoms. Fans feel that because they love the show, it should be created around them, their wishes and commands. When it isn't, they cry foul and outrage. Those are two different things. The criticism posted on this forum and around the internet where people are level-headed and claiming to not like the look of certain things but willing to keep an open mind, yeah, that's criticism. But whining like a baby because the warpnacelles don't fit in with what we know from one starship from one show...... No. Just no.

For me, worst of all are those that say (with a twisted sense of pride) 'I will not be watching Discovery'.... this has nothing to do with criticism! At least watch an episode, at least then you'd have earned some credibility to form an opinion.. talk about judging a book by it's cover... or a series on Klingon make-up design.......!

James Frain, who plays Sarek, said he is "her adoptive father in a sense." I assume this "in a sense" means he didn't legally adopt her.

I post a lot of positive things about stuff I like. So, unless you literally read everything I post, this is a ridiculous thing to say. When it comes to Discovery, there is almost nothing for me to like so my opinions are not very positive. But, as a comparison, I'm really excited and positive about Doctor Who and the changes it will be undergoing. So, its all context. In the context of Discovery, there is very little positive for me to say. But, its just one topic.

Well, then he definitely shouldn't be allowed to design anything again. How do they not understand that, while it fluctuated for awhile, once a solid design for klingons was decided on they stayed consistent for decades. Worf from TNG in the early 90s looks like the klingons in Enterprise. Newer ST spin offs didn't do more redesigns because they had THE design. These new aliens are not the same species as the TOS/TNG/VOY/etc klingon's. They don't even remotely look like the same species. Its like if they redesigned Vulcans by giving them tails, red skin and devil horns but argued they were still the same species because they still had pointy ears. Having a bumpy forehead doesn't make an alien a klingon. At this point, they're rejected orcs in crappy costumes.

Trying to say someone can't judge a show by its awful design is someone trying to shove what they think on someone else. At least I don't claim anyone should agree with me, I just state and defend what I say as my opinion. I will be watching Discovery because I hate watch many things. I expect to only see crap and I'm sure I'll hate it, but it has Star Trek in the title so I'll watch a few episodes at least. Until then, I don't need to see an episode to form an opinion on those atrocious "klingon" designs.

Kirk55555, if you're willing to give the show a chance, then I wasn't refering to you. Hope you'll watch with an open mind! And of course you can dislike designs or specific parts, my point was that it is at this stage impossible to form a realistic opinion on the show itself, 'cause well... it hasn't aired yet.

Although I do prefer some of the touches on Page's original ID Klingon designs - the jewellery, the hair, etc.

But this also shows that the Discovery Klingons can easily have hair & look like old Klingons. This bald phase is just a fashion fad, of course :klingon::beer::rommie:

No, ridiculous would be saying you never post anything positive, which I didn't. I said I can't remember having seen a comment from you which isn't about hating someone or something. This is true, I can't.

Ridiculous would also be the sort of hyperbole you are throwing around about a show you haven't seen. "They shouldn't be allowed to work in the entertainment industry again" is the sort of immature remark that is exactly ridiculous and deserving of no merit at all. It's the kind of comment that gives us a bad collective name as a fandom, an embarrassing reputation for pettiness which makes people laugh at us. Comments like that make us look ridiculous precisely because that's exactly what they are. Ridiculous.

Well that's your opinion. I don't share it at all, which is fine. Nothing I said would give the fandom a bad name, I can think of a bunch of complaints that are actually bad (like people I've seen who were complaining about the race/gender of the lead). I happen to think most of the designs are crap, which is, while subjective, a fair opinion to have. I also thought the trailer was bad, along with the Spock secret sister reveal. Nothing outside the realm of understandable opinion, regardless of whether you share the same opinions or not.

Also, there are many people who shouldn't be allowed in the entertainment industry (like Discovery producer Kurtzman), but its not like I expect it to happen. Its more like me saying they're crap at what they do in a slightly more roundabout way.

But the choice on what design to use is made by the producers. The main issue people have with these Klingons is the lack of hair, and as you can see in the images @Jarvisimo posted they were always meant to have hair. The bald version was just in the early sculpt before the hair had been added. The producers obviously decided that was a better look and went with it.

Honestly? I do read a lot of your posts. Most of them are filled with negative comments about shows/movies you like.

And this is why fandom completely baffles me. Is hating something worth the energy?

Feel free to send me PMs so to avoid derailing the thread, and give me an explanation. Because, in my experience, the most positive aspects of fandom is the ability to discuss mutual enjoyment, not mutual hate.

It confuses me so much that I'm just going to have to post my favorite gif in response:
