I do wonder how that fight plays out between Burnham and the Klingon. When "Iron Man" fights in the movie's we always get to see Stark's facial reactions inserted into the mix. Not to mention he like most superhero's always seem to loose their mask,face gear in the big battle scene's.

Ironically, we have now two sculpts of klingon heads - the one on this knife, and the one on the sarcophagus from the trailer - and both look IMO way more klingon than the new klingons themselves! And that simply by virtue of having eyebrows, beards and hair. Shows you how much that is ingrained in the design language for klingons in Star Trek, since that has been a consistency since more than 50 years. Hope we'll see some DIS-klingons with beards later on as well... I guess they'll be much faster accepted by the fan community.

I have a feeling that the 'redesign' of the Klingons is not a simple "we've redesigned the whole lot of them and that's that sorry!".
Harberts' comments are not as black and white as they seem, either.

I mean, what's actually being said here? A complete overhaul of the entire race or just "several different houses with different styles"?

No. His point was that at the end of the Middle Ages... when folks started translating the Bible FROM Latin (the only liturgical language approved by the nearly all-powerful Catholic Church) into the vernacular languages, that was in essence "media piracy" as the Church "owned" the rights to the printing, distribution, and interpretation of the Bible.

The armour is described to be made in tribute to the ancient ways, not that it is from anicent times.

This is from the info plaque at SDCC. It also says only the House of T'Kumva warriors wear it.

Though T'Kumva wants to unite all the houses, he might force them to wear it as well.

He never published his plays in order to prevent rival theater companies from staging productions, so the surviving copies are all transcriptions taken by audience members; that's why there's no stage direction (outside the one famous "exit pursued by a bear"). What you're leaving out here is that a) only 18 of his plays were published prior to the First Folio (the legitimate reproduction of his works), and b) the pirated quartos prior to the First Folio bungled his content and were unreliable. Hence the printing of the First Folio by Shakespeare's colleagues. So much for the virtues of piracy.

In terms of visual style, tone and approach this series represents a more determined departure from old Star Trek than the Abrams movies did. Discovery will go on for at least several years and will be a watershed in the way the Franchise is presented.

So, in that sense the old "canon" is now finally dead - which is to say, events that we've seen before may persist and be referred to and not directly overwritten, but it will never be possible to rationalize Discovery into a "fit" with other Trek shows as in the past.

Abrams presented nuTrek as an "alternate universe."

The Star Trek: Enterprise producers built a changed history right into the show's premise to lend reluctant fans a little comfort and room to rationalize.

Not this time. Discovery is now the beginning of a different realization of the "Star Trek universe," one that will not be able to be "Trials And Tribbleation-ed" into the old.

In episode twelve, Pike and Spock show up aboard Enterprise. Their uniforms are just like the uniforms we're seeing no on Discovery crew, and Enterprise looks entirely different than in TOS.

Does one of the characters have to say something like "Oh yeah, we went to Talos IV but the place had been eaten by a Doomsday Machine before we got there" in order for us to call this a reboot?
