Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

I was talking about the trend today not just the doctor.

But why does he have to be human looking than? Or tall, short or skinny? Where's the fat bald Dr. Who? I mean if the Doctor is now supposed to represent all sorts of people why not those?
He has a lot of regenerations to come.

Kind of related to the talk about the 13th Doctor, while glancing around online about the new Doctor I saw someone suggest Romana coming back, but as a male regeneration played by Alexander Siddig. This is one of the most awesome things I know will never happen that I've read recently. I mean, I'd like to see Siddig as The Doctor too, but this would be pretty awesome.

@{ Emilia } beat me to it:

Because the Doctor is the hero and why not make the hero a woman?
Again why the constant changing of an established characters race and gender?

Why not?
Why not tall, short or skinny?Where's the fat bald Dr. Who? I mean if the Doctor is now supposed to represent all sorts of people why not those?

See, you do get it.

These are all valid questions. So far they have expanded the boundaries of how the Doctor can appear. They can and should keep going, if the actor in question who exemplifies those characteristics is doing the job well enough.

We better get a vertically challenged Doctor first or a squid. Because that would be BS that it always has to be based on sexual preferences...

I think Romana did most of those already, or at least a variation on the theme when she did her cycling regenerations because the Doctor thought she shouldn't just take someone they just met appearance after leaving that time period behind. In the end she still took o the appearance of the Princess.

It will be something when the Doctor goes back to take on one of his earlier forms again...he will eventually. While it will be far too late to bring back Tom Baker again (assuming he is really human and will not live for another hundred years), an older Matt Smith could easily become a face reused because the Doctor had it as a favorite.

I started watching Doctor Who during the Pertwee years. I never thought there would be a better Master than Roger Delgado. Then I found myself transfixed by this brilliant, completely bananas incarnation of the Master known as "Missy". Wildly intelligent, completely diabolical, and utterly ruthless. Not to mention unbelievably unhinged. I didn't care that the Master's gender had flipped. Hell, I thought that was just another the Master's over-complicated ploys. And yes, I cried when I saw her die. I really hope she found a way out as she'd done before.

So now we have a female Doctor. I was astonished at the reveal, in a good way. Hell, how many hints did we get during the last two episodes? So it wasn't a big, unpleasant shock. We've had the notion thrown at us for the past three years, for crying out loud.

I'm good with a female Doctor. That it's Jodie Whittaker makes it all the better. She's a fantastic actor. I can't wait to see what she brings to the table.

A few people have suggested a male Romana in this thread but this is the first time I've seen Alexander Siddig suggested. As someone who has been suggesting Siddig as The Doctor since Tennant's departure, I'm all for this idea! :D

Fuck's sake, you moppet. We already went through this with starsuperion: Gender identity and sexual preference are about as divorced from one another as me reading a book about baseball is from my intention to listen to some Leonard Cohen music tonight.

I always thought it would be interesting if the Doctor changed genders. In-universe they don't need to make a huge deal about it but I think there should be some acknowledgement. Their species can change genders but I think if you've been a guy for over two thousand years that you would have some reaction to it. I think it would be neat if we saw Madame Vastra or Jack again and got their reaction to it.

I missed some seasons. As I said earlier I began to lose interest.... was there a squid regeneration from ramona? Lol.

I meant what sex people preferred the Doctor to be. Hence the fact I now want to see a fat bald doctor now. Ok??

Considering the Doctor didn't seen to really pay attention to his companions in any sort of sexual manner until Rose (probably from survivor's guilt post-war) and then having more or less some awakening through those years until Amy Pond quite blatantly point out his largely female companion list, and the Doctor starting to get married a bunch of times (that might have been River's fault). That is with species outside of his own, given the existence of Susan, the remarks about his family, and possibly his interactions with Romana.

I think it would be neat if we saw Madame Vastra or Jack again and got their reaction to it.

Jack would hit on that....

I suppose if it makes some feel better, there's always the explanation that this is something that only came with his special new cycle of regenerations that he got at the end of TOTD, and not something that was always possible (ignoring the fact we've seen other characters like the Master switch genders).

I mean they've already stretched the rules quite a bit just to keep the Doctor around this long, so I don't see why this would be any more out of bounds.

This is precisely what I hope they'll do. Nothing more than "I've got ears!" and then move onto the next adventure.

Jack would hit on that....
To be fair, Jack hit on The Ninth Doctor, too. ;)

Honestly, I'd love to see a female Rassilon. I'd think she'd be far more calculating and much less of a megalomaniac.

How awkward will the next multi-Doctor story be, with the Doctor tempted to flirt with themself? Comedy gold, that.

I could see 13 flirting with 10, who's trying to ignore her, while 11 subconsciously flirts with 13 like he has a tendency to do anyway.

This is precisely what I hope they'll do. Nothing more than "I've got ears!" and then move onto the next adventure.

*grope* "smaller than River's".

Jack would hit on any of the Doctors I think. And most of the companions. At the same time.

I so want a multi Doctor story that pulls the trick from the 5th Doctor/10th Doctor crossover (some technobabble that makes the earlier incarnation become an old man) to have those three just wander around in the same story with the a few of the NuWho Doctors, being mostly comedy relief while the "younger" Doctors do the action. The Classic Who Doctors having "Get off my lawn" moments with someone like Smith or Tennant or the new Doctor would be hilarious. Maybe have the three older Doctors keep getting captured (in wacky ways, maybe as homages to Classic Who stories) and the "younger" Doctors just get really aggravated at their "older" selves
