Yeah I get that. As I already said the ret-conning in Doctor Who is atrocious. As for reinventing yeah that all the Doctor is now. There's nothing constant with him. He may as well turn into a squid the next time around. I would Hazzard a guess that we will eventually learn that he's not even the same being with each regeneration.

If you can't deal with change, Doctor Who is not the show for you.

It's been eluded to for a few years now. I'm well aware.

Because the Doctor is the hero and why not make the hero a woman?
The Doctor is an alien anyway and regenerates as various completely different-looking people, so I don't see why it can't be a woman. Nothing ever indicated that the male gender is essential to the Doctor's character. It's forever been stated that the Doctor might regenerate as a woman at some point.

But obviously society and TV production has forever been male-dominated which made it hard for women to get the hero's role. Thank fuck it's 2017 so we can expect to see a more realistic representation of society in our TV heroes.

Audiences are bored of seeing white men as protagonists almost all the time. It doesn't fit the society around us anymore so seeing "more white men" in these roles just feels like an unrealistic gimmick that ignores how our societies have evolved, embraced more gender equality and diversity.

We don't want TV to portray a 1950s society full of white men. Not as sidekicks (which Doctor Who has realized years ago) but also not as the hero (which Doctor Who has finally realized, too).

And it's quite telling how you ignored my first paragraph about Missy.

From my perspective, people like you are always on the attack. You are filled with hate. You want revenge. You want to tear down what others have. You want them to suffer. You want them to hurt. There is no positivity to it; you don't want to build anything of your own you can be proud of. You just take.

In any case, I stated my opinion initially; you have done nothing but continually attack it. That's fine. But you can't force me to love something (whether it be directly or by attempts at shaming); and I can guarantee you would raise seven levels of hell if I tried to force you.

I think this has more to do with comic books in recent years shifting or replacing older heroes and villains with individuals of other genders, races, sometimes even species while keeping the same branding name for the "new" characters. I think someone once spouted off on a tangent thinking that eventually the comic books would be so diversified that there wouldn't actually be any white male heroes left at all in DC or Marvel that didn't also happen to be an alien from some far off (and likely dead) planet.

There is nothing in-universe to prevent the Doctor from being a woman. In fact, the very concept of regeneration allows it! If anything, based on the established rules in the Doctor Who universe, it probably should have happened sooner. The only obstacle against it is in the minds of fans. Up to now, every incarnation has been male. It's all we've known. It is what our minds became used to seeing. As a result, a male Doctor became ingrained in our minds as a sort of unwritten tradition. So, changing the Doctor's gender is going to feel wrong to some because it goes against what we became so accustomed to.

What are you even on about?
The people who are on the attack are the ones throwing silly temper tantrums about Doctor Who now being a woman. There's plenty of hate going around there.

So liking the fact that 1 out of 13 Doctors is a woman is now "wanting revenge"? Wanting people to hurt?
Could your post possibly be any more melodramatic and hysterical?

We're taking something away from white men? When studies show that white men are still wildly overrepresented in media?
We just want a somewhat more equal representation. I don't want white men to disappear or not get any representation.

    Jesus, the angst!
Stop misrepresenting what people are saying.

Emilia I feel we have a lot of common ground here. I don't want a tv society filled with white men as well. I love female driven tv shows. Especially action and sci-fi. I still remember when I first started watching Buffy and how thrilled I was with the show.

Im not talking sidekick level character here. We could have gotten a new original character. They have done well with establishing new iconic characters within the franchise.

Sadly it's now to the point where it's pretty much a 99% different character in everything except shared memories..oh well...

If there is ever a trans Doctor I fully expect a decent portion of the fanbase to suffer strokes at the same time.

There was no reason that they had to, either.
You mean, including such change by a character who regenerates into a new form every now and then, who is of the same species as another well-established character whose sex has already been established to have changed upon regeneration?

We better get a vertically challenged Doctor first or a squid. Because that would be BS that it always has to be based on sexual preferences...

I guess I simply don't understand why you think masculinity is an integral part of the show's premise or the Doctor's character. The Doctor seems to be one of the easiest franchise protagonists to change gender on since he reincarnates all the time anyway.

Audiences get bored of seeing "more white men" all the time when reality is more diverse than that. So this is a lovely change.

I was talking about the trend today not just the doctor.

But why does he have to be human looking than? Why not tall, short or skinny? Where's the fat bald Dr. Who? I mean if the Doctor is now supposed to represent all sorts of people why not those?
