Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

Totally not watching. Not even gonna pretend to be optimistic. Worst idea ever. Not a fan. It's all about SJW quotas these days. Oh well. Would have liked to see what could have been done. Looks like the death of Docotor Who. But that's just my prediction. If ratings are low, I expect lots of "sexism" to be the excuse. Sigh...soooooo tired of the SJW crap.

Totally agree. Doctor Who was a favorite of mine. (though i dropped off a bit with Capaldi) I have nothing against a female Time Lord but Doctor Who was always written as male. They couldn't have created a new female Time Lord???When they had that throw away line with Matt Smith a few years ago I knew we were gonna get a female soon. Oh well. This has been par for the course as of late. Not only with gender but race as well. If we saw a popular iconic black character go white or a iconic female character written as male we would see a huge backlash from those camps. We will be demonized, seen as sexist of course for not liking this change....lol.
Oh well I'm been getting very tired of sci-fi and super heroes in general. There's so much of it. It's getting diluted and boring and since it's so popular with the general public now, it's getting more "PC" I Watch more reality based shows movies like Peaky Blinders, Better Call Saul, Halt and Catch fire etc.
This has been running 12 years straight now. I see the end around the bend soon anyhow and it will be welcomed. The show has gone just about everywhere and it's gonna more and more preposterous as it goes on and that's saying a lot concerning Doctor Who. Thankfully there are better shows American and British out there produced every year. So I take comfort in that.

Good news for you is we're still living in a world where you probably won't be shot dead by the police for no reason for being white; where you won't be raped because you're a man and where you won't get paid less for doing the same job as a woman. Your patriarchy remains mostly intact and sadly won't be effected too much by one little British TV show.

This just opens up great new dialog--new story ideas. Maybe even a guest appearance of Jeffrey Tambor. ("I wish my transition was as stunning." ) ;)

This Doctor sees that an alliance of Daleks and Cybermen want a new salient in a re-started Time War--the beachhead being on the world of the Sisterhood of Karn, where the Doctor is captured.

The Sisterhood (as one voice)
"You do not belong--you are really not like us--there is too much of the old pariarchy"

The Doctor:
"Is the outside all that you can see? I do not belong to the Time Lords--I do not belong to you either. You are no different that the cybermen, who seek to bend all to their will."

The cybers offer to eliminate all roles. The sisterhood chafes at this and the Doctor's individuality.

A perfect first episode.

I'll pose to you the same question I asked starsuperion: In what way does the fundamental core of the series, which is "the Doctor is an alien, with a magic box, who has adventures in time and space with one or more (usually human) companions," change because the actor playing the Doctor doesn't have a twig and berries?

The Doctor said it himself.

It's probably reasonable to think the majority of Time Lords are genderqueer.

That's a somewhat recent development xD Heck...I remember when they didn't have belly buttons, and when the universe favoured binary gendered humanoids because the Time Lords started a trend...or when not every gallifreyan was a Time Lord etc etc. Regardless, the Doctor, until this, the technical fifteenth, has been male. I believe cis Malé is the unpleasant sounding name someone came up with.
This is not a judgement on whether it's ok to be a girl now, just pointing out your idea he had been female before isn't accurate.
Though Academy robs can hide a multitude of sins...I suspect Borusa made bad underwear choices. It would explain much.

Atticus Finch would punch you in the chops for this, or he would if you were right, which you are not.

So would the aforementioned MacGyver.

And why the hell does a role model have to be the same sex for folk to look up to them?! I admired Mary Poppins as a kid and the Suffragettes as an adult.

So the non violent heroes you name would respond with violence? MacGuyver was all about weaponising stuff...pine cone grenades? He was as non-violent as the A-Team.
If gender doesn't matter for role models...which for the most part I agree with, but it's nice to have a couple that do...then what is the argument for ever gender flipping a character, if what you say is true? It's been used here, and it's been used for Ghostbusters. If we don't need things to match to have a character 'represent' us...then what is the point?
Just food for thought...I am fifty fifty on this Doctor, with a Chandler Bing caveat.

I for one thought you meant new shows today, not shows of the last thirty years or whatever people have been bringing up.

How is cis male unpleasant? It just means not trans, it's a latin term and not a judgement or slur.

What I like is that making the Doctor female does seem to have the effect of weeding out sexist and bigoted “fans”, what with all of them feeling the need to comment that they won't be watching (although I suspect most of them will still watch).

Makes me wish the creators of Discovery would have gone even further and made Michael Burnham a transgender character (which in itself would be fascinating for a whole lot of reasons), so that the franchise would shed an even greater number of unwanted fan(atic)s.

Ah, I see it's just gone midnight. I think I'll take the next week off the internet and come back when the bulk of the hysteria has hopefully died down.

I'll be honest, I think there's almost nothing for little boys today...even Who was not exactly family suitable, and I am left pinning my hopes on Discovery. It's near impossible to point to a current male protagonist and say 'see son, wouldn't it be awesome to be like him.' Too much violence, too many idiots, and no more heroes anymore. Matt Smith looks to have been the last...Capaldi flew in on a hot air balloon made of human skin.

It's unpleasant sounding. Like cyst. Never liked it. And in post enlightenment sort of way we should look to a Greek word, not Latin. Goodness knows what that is though. It's probably just as naf. ;)

We had the discussion elsewhere...but with Trek tech...how would you even know? Jean-Luc would barely have to change his name, and they grow kidneys with pills.

Kate Lethbridge-Stewart- I like your new style doctor

Doctor- Oh I was thinking about you and the brigadier when I regenerated.

"...I nearly even threw in a mustache for good measure." :D

Oddly, facial hair is sort of my touchstone for this casting choice. The thing about Michelle Gomez as the Master was that she felt like she was spiritually in tune with Roger Delgado & Anthony Ainley, so much so that I could almost see the goatee on her.

For Jodie Whittaker, the real test will be whether I can see her & forget that she's not the same man as her predecessors. It's a tradition for me that I realize that I've accepted the new Doctor when I hear a line of dialogue in the current Doctor's voice, only to think back to the episode in question and realize that it was from one of the previous Doctor's seasons. I still remember that moment for both David Tennant & Matt Smith. (It was kinda backwards for me with Peter Capaldi. For his first season, I kept hearing his lines in Matt Smith's voice. It wasn't until "Last Christmas" that I could see the TARDIS appear and not be surprised to see Capaldi pop out of it instead of Smith.)

Of course, in the novels, it doesn't matter which Doctor it is. My mind always defaults the voice back to Tom Baker. :D

I'm pretty sure that Chibnall & the BBC would have only gone with this decision if they thought it was genuinely the right casting choice, not just a publicity stunt or checking off a demographic box. The thing I would always remind any writer of the show is to let the character evolve organically. The show's best transitions between Doctors have always been natural ones. Patrick Troughton was a product of the production team wanting to make the Doctor less cranky & more approachable. Jon Pertwee's Doctor became a man of action because that's where Pertwee's skill set lay. Tom Baker is a genuine, real life space alien, so his Doctor was going to reflect that. Where the show ran into trouble was in the 1980s when JNT was casting Doctors less for their own talent and more for the way that they contrasted against their predecessors.

I can't judge her acting because I've never seen her in anything, but she doesn't look weird and quirky enough. I mean, look at Tom Baker. No Human can possibly look like that.

I was thinking she looks too young. If they were going to go for a woman, I was expecting someone older & stranger, like Olivia Colman. But then, Matt Smith worked out just fine. And in every photo I've seen of Whittaker online, she looks different. She's like a chameleon (though not Kamelion).

And at least I still get to maintain my streak of always being younger than the Doctor. Matt Smith was a close call but still manages to be 3 weeks older than me. Whittaker is 5 months older than me. Still... we're getting pretty close and we can't keep this up forever. I have a sinking feeling that the 15th or 16th Doctor will finally slip past me. :( :p

For this, if nothing else, I forgive you for "Cyberwoman" Mr Chibnall.

I liked "Cyberwoman." Great tension-filled bottle episode.

For a second, I was like, "Why did he drop his key?"

Thing is, if the Doctor ever runs into Amy Pond again in this form, Amy is going to tower over the Doctor. (Karen Gillan his really tall while Jodie Whittaker is just over average.)

I'd love to see that. :D

I hope there's an episode where the Doctor has to dress formal, like The Lazarus Experiment. I'm curious to know if the Doctor rocks a frock or goes for a female tux.

Ace beat him to the Tux. It was an evolution for her new gal pal apparently though.

Edit: her.
Doctor has been a girl for a metaphorical ten minutes. It may have to settle in.
