Well that was a whole roundabout way to cover why Stephanie Leonidas isn't on any more!
Still, it was fun as always.

With the auditions for Johnny's replacement I didn't expect him to be back by the end of the episode, so I was surprised they wrapped up Clara's story and the hackmods so quickly.
For now at least, that is, I hope we'll see more of them even though there isn't any apparent Hullen connection going on.

Delle Seyah is back, and she seems to be herself, not hullenized.

The D'avin thing is still hanging in the air, it doesn't look like Dutch is aware of his excursion last week...

So that was Seyah at the end, I thought she looked familiar but I wasn't entirely sure who. For a second I thought it might have been Clara's friend, and she just looked different with the different clothes and makeup.
The whole Ollie is Clara was a nice little twist, and I like how they still left it open for Stephanie Leonidas to come back.
The stuff with the nerd auditions was fun, I'm really glad they didn't completely get rid of the Zeph. I liked her, and it was nice to get another girl on the team.
I love that they are actually casting people with disabilities as the hackmods. I was wondering about actor who played their leader in the bar, and according to the recap he was injured in a fire a couple years ago. A few of the others were real amputees, including Niko actress Viktoria Modesta, who actually used her own legs, including the spike. The song that played during one of her scenes was her song Prototype.
Here's the music video for it, which just to warn you does contain a bit of nudity:

Not a bad ep, but I admit I'm kind of mixed. I hope this isn't the last main story with the hackmods and I kind of feel like both stories were a bit rushed.

Me, too!

Well, they kinda spoiled it by showing Mayko Nguyen's name at the start of the guest cast credits in the first act. So I was waiting the whole episode for her to show up, and when she hadn't shown up in the rest of it, I knew she'd be revealed in the final scene. Given how few guest actors they ever do bill up front (e.g. Sarah Power -- Pawter -- was only ever credited in the end titles despite being a semi-regular), I'm surprised they didn't hide her credit until the end.

Hm, I don't think those two actresses look much alike at all. (Although Nguyen does remind me a bit of Ellen Wong from Dark Matter, though it's as much in the voice and delivery as in the face.)

It does kind of feel like the whole "skinner" subplot was invented to create an excuse for recasting Clara.

And one of the "nerds" was Erik Knudsen of Continuum, playing a tech geek once again. He's getting typecast.

Yeah, that's neat. Not only does it give opportunities to actors who might have trouble finding work otherwise, but it saves a ton of money on visual effects.

I checked out Modesta's video above. Looks like her character on the show was very much inspired by her persona in the video, complete with the futuristic hairdo and spike prosthetic.,

Interesting. Looks like they might be addressing the last scene of episode 1, and we'll be getting a lot more Aneela.

I'm a bit puzzled by the timeline. This episode implied that "a hundred years ago" was the early colonial period in the J Cluster, but the Quad (which is a colony on the fringes of The J) was settled at least ten generations ago, which would be more like 200-300 years, and the rise of the Hullen on Arkyn was 200 years ago.

I also don't get why the Killjoys were even surprised that D'Avin was the one who could control the Hullen ships. We already knew he has the power to control Hullen plasma, and the ships are part of the same biotechnology.

Maybe it was just that area that was colonized starting a hundred years ago?
Zeph and Johnny trying to deal with each other was fun, and it was cool to get some scenes with Aneela and the Hullen.
I can't remember, what exactly happens when you're taken over the by the Hullen? I was thinking it totally changed your whole personality and everything, but Delle Seyah Kendry was pretty just acting like she usually does.
The stuff on the colony was pretty interesting.

But Dutch and the others were describing its architectural style as early colonial and dating it to that era, as though it were a generally understood thing. Dutch and the brothers come from different home planets in The J, so if they define "colonial" architecture the same way, that suggests it's something cluster-wide. Not to mention that, since they were blink-drived there (as it were) in the Hullen ship, I'm not sure they even knew where in the cluster they were.

Normally, it suppresses your capacity for emotion and empathy, but the original strain that infected Khlyen and Aneela did not have that effect. Here, Aneela said there were two types of plasma and she'd given Delle Seyah the good kind, presumably the same as hers.

Of course, it's not like Delle Seyah ever had much empathy to begin with; she's a sociopath whom we've repeatedly seen committing murder without remorse. So I doubt either strain of Hullen would affect her psychology that much.

This was, hands down, the most beautiful looking episode of the series I've seen thus far. I'm so tired of the over saturated, hazy, parts of the screen smeary and out of focus, look the show prefers.
Gorgeous.

As much as I enjoy the series I'm wondering what effect Hannah John-Kamen's burgeoning movie career* is going to have on its future.

*Tomb Raider, Ready Player One and Ant Man & The Wasp in the next twelve months.
