Species/factions that could handle a Borg invasion of 5 cubes.

The Dominion for sure. Just kamikaze a bunch of Jem'Hadar into the cubes.

Maybe the Krenim with their temporal weapons?

Tholians, with their energy draining webs. I can see them putting up a hell of a fight due to that unique weapon.

janeway was able to adapt to the krenim weapons, i assume the borg would do it effortlessly. of course if the krenim used their time hax thats another thing. but i mean... everyone seems to be able to time travel if they wanna

Janeway was able to adapt only because an undetonated Krenim torpedo was lodged in the hull and Seven was able to scan it.

Maybe the Borg can scan that frequency while they are being fired, but if that were easy to do, wouldn't Janeway have been able to?

that's a fair point. but the borg are shown to adapt super quick. and even withotu shields, i feel like it'd take a while before those weak torpedos could take out a cube. voyager was tanking them pretty good

oh yea to whomever mentioned the dominion ramming cubes. i like that idea. i think theirs alot more potential for unconventional warfare in star trek than is shown. every ship in the fleet unloading their shuttlecraft and warping them into the cube before engaging, stuff like that. a galaxy class starship with a full compliment of torpedos and a live warp core i would think should deal formidable damage, wouldnt it? thats like 300 torpedos going off laongside the warp core, and the warp cores in any shuttlecraft onboard? a little off-topic

Please! If it would be such simple, the whole Borg armada could be whiped out by a bunch of old freighters on auto-pilot.

The ramming tactics MIGHT work against the Cube once - assuming that Borgs never meet this tactis before (which is HIGHLY doubtful!). After that, they would just maneuvre out of ramming trajectory, or provide Cubes with multiple point-defense weaponry, or gave each Cube an escort of smaller units.

The Jem'Hadar ramming tactics was a shock for Federation NOT because they never met ramming before. It was because Starfleet ship was already retreating, and there was no particular need to resort to such kind of tactics. What shocked the Federation was that the Jem'Hadar were ready to sacrifice themselves even for minor, tactical gain - even Klingons haven't got such disdain for their own survival.

I agree. Worf planned to Ram the defiant into the cube in first contact, but seemed under no illusion it'd change the outcome of the fight. It was just a last-ditch effort to deal a bit of damage once he was out of the fight.

that's not to say it wouldn't work one time. borg show up, immediately get rammed which takes them by surprise, but next time they'll have adapted.

I wonder how the breen energy dampeners would bother the borg.

The Cytherians would probably have a decent chance.
It would also be fun to see the adaptable pantyhose/shampoo bottle drones from The Arsenal Of Freedom try to out-adapt the Borg.

You mean the Echo Papa 607? Hmm, that is an interesting choice. The only problem there is manufacturing... takes too much timd between adaptations. The Borg adapt far more quickly, which gives them a decisive advantage.

It would still be fun to watch, though.

Well... Cardassian "Dreadnought"-class missiles seems to be a potent candidates. Even Borg Cube wouldn't like the 1-ton antimatter explosion... and those missiles have interstellar range, and seems to be relatively cheap. So, if we have several thousands of them, swarming the Cobe defenses... probably we could saturate them enough, for enough missiles to get through.

Well, skipping the standard überspecies such as organians and Q continuum, I'd say the Voth.

Also probably Arturis' species (species 116). According to Arturis, they managed to elude the Borg for centuries and eventually, the Borg closed in on them with 'hundreds of cubes'. To me, that's an indication five probably wouldn't have done the job.

The Federation with Future Janeway's Transphasic Torpedoes

The Romulans with their Scimatar Thalaron Weapon

The Vulcans with Red Matter

The Dominion with their Polaron Pulse Phase weapons and sucide runs.

Sphere Builders with their time travel hijinks.

Pakleds.

After encountering several Borg cubes, a Pakled ship try to convince the Borg to assimulate them, the Borg refuse and continue on their way.

The Pakleds begin to follow the Borg cubes and the Borg increase their speed. Soon the single Pakled ship is chasing the Borg cubes at top speed through the quadrant.

I couldn't help but chuckle at that.

To use a novel species-the Caeliar.
