New Animated Show: Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

^They're 2 minute shorts. That rather limits the scope of the narrative and potential for intrigue, no?

I thought it was well done for what it is, which is a two minute short. The idea of an assassin targeting Padme is nothing new (AOTC, Clone Wars, etc) and the beats are quick enough to be familiar for the younger audience.

Economy of storytelling often means that there are more fun questions to unpack, but are not necessary to understand the story itself.

I think this is the last one before the hiatus. Then it comes back in October.

Nice to see Jyn though I thought it was weird that she told the little girl her real name instead of using an alias.

Between Garel, a meiloorun and a tooka (subtle callback to Jyn's childhood?) there's some cute little nods to 'Rebels' in this one. Also, am I crazy or was the little girl voiced by Ashley Eckstein? I suppose it could also have been Catherine Taber, but it didn't strike me as the child voice she usually goes with.

She did seem to hesitate before giving her name, which could be because she's used to giving an alias, but decided in this case to use her real name.

Which is obviously my point. As I already said, the previous episodes' plots have been small enough to fit into such a brief frame, but this one was a lot more open-ended and raised questions that could easily have driven a longer story. It's natural enough to be curious and want to speculate about where those questions could've led if there were room to investigate them. Also, seeing TCW characters invites comparison to that show's storytelling style, so it's natural to wonder where a full TCW episode (or multiparter) would've taken this premise.

It's got nothing to do with understanding. I'm not asking for explanations; I'm about 40 years older than this show's target demographic, after all. Unpacking the fun questions is exactly what I'm trying to do.

Not to be pedantic, but, sorry, it wasn't "obvious" otherwise I would be agreeing with you and not calling it in to question.

Then I misunderstood and I apologize. It read to me like a demand for my storytelling being put in to a 2 minute short.

Ooh, nice, a bit of Sabine's leitmotif in the music right at the end there. I really like that melody.

This one's a bit clumsy. Why didn't Leia just hand Sabine the gigantic data tape before the Stormtroopers saw her with it? Also, didn't Leia and Sabine meet before, when the former guest-starred on Rebels? Or was Sabine off somewhere else in that episode?

So, this is it, isn't it? There were only supposed to be eight of these things, with eight more coming in the fall, right?

Also, when does this one take place? Based on Sabine's hair, some point during season 2 of Rebels seems most likely. That track with everyone else?

No, Sabine was right there in 'A Princess on Lothal', but they didn't really interact directly. I'd say that this most likely takes place at some point before 'Legacy' since it's unlikely they'd go back to using Garel for hand-offs after their operations there were burned. Sabine's hair colour also dictates it takes place at some point after 'The Siege Of Lothal', so this is at some point in the first half of season 2.
The only wrinkle is that here she refers to Leia as a Senator when she explicitly was not one (yet) in 'A Princess on Lothal'.

With that in mind it's probably later on season 2, by which time she may just have taken over from Bail. For whatever reason they just decided to risk doing a drop on Garel, despite the increased scrutiny.

Side note: Oddly, Sabine is wearing the season 1 version of her outfit, which was never seen alongside the blue/green hair. Not a major issue, by any means, just odd from a branding/merchandising POV.

Yeah, the hair continuity is a bit odd. Leia's appearance and situation suggest a timeframe very close to ANH, while Sabine's look suggests something years earlier.

Well, maybe in the future, Sabine will go back to an earlier hairstyle and armor design.

Just caught up with the rest of the episodes. All of them are fun but "The Stranger" stood out the most for me. Great little moment for Jyn. Plus, you can't go wrong with alien cats. :D

Yeah, mine too. Does anybody know when the Forces of Destiny merch is supposed to start coming out? I doubt I'd bu any of it, but I am curious to at least check some of the stuff out.

Congrats, you entirely missed the point of a two minute short aimed at children.
This isn't the "Leia got a new outfit" story, it's the "Leia learned to appreciate the courage and ingenuity of the seemingly powerless" story. It foreshadows their alliance with the tribe and explains why she was playing dress-up when everyone else showed up for dinner: she was playing diplomat. Generally it's the done thing in diplomacy to graciously accept a proffered gift as a prelude to a dialogue.

Obviously they made it after she showed up. It's a simple thing that wouldn't take a skilled seamstress very long. An hour or two at most.
And to answer your next stupid question: obviously they have reams of material on hand, or did you think those gliders built themselves?

The Ewok TV show was a Saturday morning cartoon. It was never canon, nor was it meant to be (and no, neither was the EU either. No, not ever.)

I can't tell if you're being facetious or not, so I'm going to be charitable and pretend this was an attempt at ironic humour.

Presumably when Ahsoka and/or Sabine show up? I mean what did you expect? A re-enactment of something we've already seen? What would be the point in that?
@Reverend, ease off on the interpersonal replies. It's not necessary. That goes for those of you who "liked" the post, as well ;)

Cool, thanks. I'm surprised the Ahsoka one comes with a Tooka, I would think Jyn would make more sense given how her episode played out.
I just checked Amazon and it turns the first book comes out in August, although they're geared at grades 1-3, so they are aiming younger than I thought they were. I thought there were also going to be some geared towards at least middle school age, but I guess not.

Might be released in phases and then they'll gauge interest from there.

This is actually a very fun way for me to introduce my daughters to Star Wars. Really excited for this.
