Thoughts on Discovery Starfleet Uniforms (Trailer Edition)

As uniforms devoid of context I really like them. I think they have a good fit and style. The only thing I hate is the deltas everywhere. I hate that pattern. Do we really need to have delta's eeeverywharbbb?
We all know they did that, so they can be the only ones allowed to sell accurate uniforms. I'm not debating whether they should have the right to do that. I just think having deltas everywhere is tacky.

"The Cage" was made over fifty years ago.

The new show won't look like that. They want people to watch it.

Yeah! F***** you Rogue One!
You look old-timey.
Nobody likes you!

The aesthetic for Star Wars has a different tone than Star Trek. What the production people did for The Force Awakens was similar to what Abrams did for the new Trek movies in that the TOS aesthetic was modernized so it echoes the original but looks up to date.

Rogue One carried the aesthetic from A New Hope and it works because it's rooted in current military looks. DSC would have trouble if you had the characters in the same velour shirts with ribbed collars that were in "The Cage". That look, while iconic, is simply too dated for current television or any current audience.

I generally like the look of the new uniforms, have to agree with a previous post that black pants would look better, I think.

As they are now they remind me a little bit of the Earthforce uniforms from Babylon 5.

Well they are both blue, other than that not much alike. The EF uniforms were not bad at all

Everyone keeps saying this, but where is the evidence? I've never seen any poll or example from modern television that proves this is true. It just seems to be people's assumptions.

Its common sense man. That would only attract a very small subset of trek fans, not non trek folks at all

Prove it!

OK, go to a mall, look at the clothing stores as well as what people are wearing. I would say that if they colored the DSC unis like ones that were done here, that would even work, because you see that era informing the TOS unis (even coexisting nicely with "The Cage" unis).

But a direct copy, velour with the ribbed collar? Nope. Won't work. It would need some alterations to work in today's aesthetic tastes, just like any 50's and 60's era clothing that's replicated for today's wear. It has echoes of it, has been altered to a more contemporary style, but is not at all a direct copy.
