Why do we have to see it as stunt casting? I mean the people will most likely be playing characters so why not just see it as getting a terrific actor to play a role on your show. To me it would only be a problem if you got people who were famous for just being famous like a Paris Hilton or some reality tv star that I supose to know but I have no idea who they are. Jason
Agreed. It is not stunt casting, it is good actors wanting to have a chance to play an interesting part, possibly unrecognizably so.
The full interview is up http://trekmovie.com/2017/06/13/ale...k-discovery-blurs-line-between-tv-and-movies/ Kurtzman: The line between film and television is utterly blurred. Not just at a storytelling level, but visually now. What we’re doing on Star Trek right now, that’s not that different from what we’re doing in the movies. I think that’s what people expect when they pay for Netflix, or for HBO, or whatever they’re going to pay for. That actually makes, as a storyteller, it makes it, in the many ways, you’re not limited by oh, we could never really do that on television scope wise because now, take a look at Game of Thrones. That’s a movie. Yes, the trailer looked more like a movie than a TV show, so he's not lying there. RAMA
Well, if all big TV shows look like movies these days... is it even worth mentioning anymore? Because if they all do it, then these TV shows all look like... modern TV shows.
I think the difference is he knows Trek fans are use to a certain look and that maybe they are still expecting that look for the new show but he wants fans to that thi know this show is going to be just as advanced looking as anything else on tv? Which might also mean that he doesn't think Trek fans watch anything other than Star Trek. I'm not sure if that would be a insult or a bad observation. Jason
This The other factor is budget. Discovery is in the top 5-7 most expensive shows ever now, so they can leverage that on the screen.
It was wildly successful in the Berman years, award winning must see TV. How quickly people forget. Go and watch something like the 30 years things. Trek was on the front cover of Time when Generations came out for goodness sake. This is mainly TNG of course, but it's not like VOY and DS9 couldn't get top drawer talent now and then even after the decline began.
The only thing that would make me turn off CBS All Access faster than that would be graphic violence and/or gore.
Somewhere in there is a joke about Garak and tailor-made tee-shirts, but I don't care enough to find it.
Kurtzman knows what's up with fandom regarding canon violations. I wonder what his user name is here?
