Former 'Doctor Who' Showrunner Confirms the 13th Doctor Has Been Cast

Please don't be Kris Marshall...please don't be Kris Marshall...Please don't be etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I think he can probably play a perfectly acceptable Doctor, just not sure we should really settle for perfectly acceptable.

I'll be in Cardiff for a couple of days in July...
What are the chances to see something worth leaking? :shifty:

If you're in Cardiff at any weekend you'll see lots of things leaking from all sorts of orifaces...

Seriously though, check Twitter for #dwsr posts when you're there and you might catch them shooting at Eddie's Diner/Clara's TARDIS in Cardiff Bay.

Imagine being cast as the new Doctor and having to hold on to that information until the official announcement.. I'm not sure I could do it... I would be bursting at the seams... I guess one could go tell a priest in confession. LOL... But other than that, even to close family, there's too much of a chance about it leaking... Oy!!

I'd certainly tell my family about it. Its not like you can't talk about it with friends - so long as it doesn't leak. And sadly, there's always a chance of that occuring.

At the very least, we should enjoy the series 10 finale without thinking "so This or That will be the Next Doctor, huh?" They kinda ruined that for Eccleston back in the day, anyway.

They might not be able to tell their family or friends about it, NDA's are powerful. I have a friend that works at Marvel studios. He can't even tell his wife what he's working on. I tried to get it out of him, by just listing random titles, and he just shook his head no, saying, "I'm doing this just in case you hit on the right one and I don't want to give it away."

Yep... NDAs are serious business. You can screw yourself out of ever working in the biz again if you're found to be in violation..

Heck, I did one day's work on the set of the Lone Ranger when it was filming here and had to sign one.. And that was just the flippin' Lone Ranger. LOL..

Yup, lose your job, be hit with fines, and make yourself unhireable. I've signed a few.

I was at a convention a few years ago, and I was sitting at a table in the bar, talking with some friends. We'd all signed Force Awakens NDAs for various reasons. We couldn't talk about what we were doing or why we were doing it, but we could say, "Yup, I signed an NDA." It was sort of a badge of honor. :)

Actually I think Kris Marshall would be a perfect fit for the Doctor. Finally a Ginger! Not to mention Kris has now the ability to explore his eccentric and smart side in the series. His Sherlock Holmes affinities and love of history and tech, and his ability to pull off mad and yet dignified and brilliant at the same time makes him a good choice, I can see him and Missy having really good banter too. Trust me. I think Kris has the potential to be as popular as both Tenant and Baker (Tom). However, it all depends on how long he stays. I mean I kinda want to get a longer period of time with a new series Doctor. Like Baker was in my earlier childhood in the late 70s to 80s. A bit O' that old familiar to make one be relax from the weeks problems.

I think Kris has that potential, but it would take his stepping it up and the showrunner and writers making a bold change. Missy babysitting is good. I like that. Take that storyline and run with it. Also, there is considerable plot points in classic who to draw from. Outside the time war. That is a good resource to draw from. I hope they do.

That's awesome.. A wink and a nod and a cheers with a beer and you all knew what you were talking about. LOL.

Well, that's assuming The Master stays a woman. Michelle Gomez is leaving along with Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat.

that's true, if they did cast a woman in that role again, it would however answer the question of wether a time lord sex change is a one off, brought on by a tragic or suicidal event, or just random, or a choice. we shall soon see! exciting!!

Hm, it'd be interesting, if the Doctor turns to be a female but the Master returns to being male. Reverse dynamic, which I'd like but only in that scenario.

That's already been answered. The General's male incarnation was against her norm; her previous incarnations were female. The assumption must be, like general appearance, it can be down to chance or choice, as per River's and Romana's regenerations.

I like Peter Capaldi. I liked him in just about everything else I've ever seen him in....but I gave up on Who in his first season. It wasn't him because I thought he was doing the best he could but something was missing for me...not sure what it was. I tried. I really tried. :(
Good writing was missing.

Yup. It's all Moffat's fault :p

1-8 incarnations: One to one.
Hurt: Regeneration #9
Eccleston: Regeneration #10
Tennant: Regeneration #11
Metacrisis: Regeneration #12
Smith: Regeneration #13

Time Lords then gives The Doctor a new cycle of regenerations.

The sticky point is the numbering itself. The Warrior or War Doctor didn't want to be called The Doctor and The Moment erased The Doctor's memories of what really happened to Gallifrey, so that incarnation was foresaken from the numbering.

The Metacrisis was The Tenth Doctor having ego issues (as per The Eleventh Doctor) and kept the same face and personality.

So technically Capaldi is The Fourteenth Doctor, but Moffat didn't want to change the numbering while at the same time creating a new mysterious incarnation and deal with the regeneration limit at the same time. Basically, having his cake and eating it, too.

My guess is that since David Bradley has been seen up in Cardiff, when Capaldi first regenerates, he reverts back to the First Doctor (who has been played by Bradley in recent Who). Then he rengens into whoever the new Doctor is.
