Former 'Doctor Who' Showrunner Confirms the 13th Doctor Has Been Cast

Recently speaking at the LGBT awards alongside Andy West from Guys Like U, Russell T Davies was questioned about Capaldi's replacement and if the BBC have settled on a new actor or actress. In response, Davies teasingly said "I do know who it is". However, under strict BBC orders, Davies cannot give out any information whatsoever regarding the 13th Doctor, and fans unfortunately have to wait just that little longer before they find out who the lucky person is.

So the door is now closed. Further speculation?

Will the BBC have another live reveal show?

I like Peter Capaldi. I liked him in just about everything else I've ever seen him in....but I gave up on Who in his first season. It wasn't him because I thought he was doing the best he could but something was missing for me...not sure what it was. I tried. I really tried. :(

...how does Davies know? Does he have a special decoder ring that Doctor Who show runners get that gives him special access henceforth?

I'm mostly joking but I am curious why and how he would be aware of such knowledge.

Either way, I hope we find out soon and it's a good choice.

Chibnall is a friend of his, so it's not super surprising.

Yeah, I thought as much. Still would be nice if we found out as late as possible. Preferably after the series finale, in a month or so. Which is what happened with Smith, in fairness.

I imagine too Moffat, Davies and Chibnall are in regular contact since they are part of Dr Who show-runners club of the 21st Century. It is a bit of an exclusive and limited club, so only they truly understand the experience and share insights/knowledge.
Based on past interviews it does seem Davies has kept in regular contact with Moffat since the latter took over.

More than that. They've all been mates for years. Gattis as well. They all used to congregate in a pub and chinwag on DW during the wilderness years.

Does anyone else wish Davies had written a Capaldi episode? I lament that we didn't get to see his take on the character, like we did with Death of the Doctor in the SJA.

Good for him. His saying he knows something but can't tell is no less annoying as watching Cindy Brady traipse around to annoy her brothers and sisters.

And ever since he told the world of his supporting ageism back in 2005 as to who can't be the Doctor, despite every Doctor up to that point being in their 40s or 50s when they started their run as the eponymous character, despite being a showrunner and writer where good writers would have made a character work as opposed to getting the audience to believe pure trash just so he could sell his lame soap opera, he should have retired shortly after or else live in much irony.

If he's apologized since, let's see his new shows actually use >40 people as the way he was criticizing when he made his claim back then. (used to like him but he'd be the last person to expect to say such horrible nonsense.)

And yet as soon as they cast someone old the ratings plunged. So he was right.

Replacing the youngest Doctor with the oldest was always going to be a gamble. But a smart showrunner would've made it work, I think, and Moffat just wasn't up to the task. I genuinely think so, because as much as I hate to say it, it looks like, beyond Hell Bent, which is just the first half of a story anyway, he hasn't had an Eleventh Hour, or a Doctor's Wife, or even a Day of the Doctor kind of triumphant story. Every single episode of his has got to have serious flaws in them.

It's apparently common knowledge among the British media press that the role was cast in April, but not who the actor (or actress) is.

I was just thinking yesterday, with the Christmas special set to film in July, they'll need a new Doctor soon. Okay, I guess there is precedent for doing a regeneration before the successor is cast (like Eccleston to Tennant) but I understand they typically prefer to have the next guy ready to step in.

With the season finale airing July 1, I imagine we'll get an announcement anytime between then and whenever the special is due to start filming.

I like PC. He is a fantastic actor. However, he has been saddled with terrible stories for the most part during his run as the Doctor. Unlike the other three Doctors in the new era, I never fully developed emotional investment in his portrayal of the character.
