F1 2017 (or Motorsports in general)

So, the 2017 F1 season is coming up quick. How about that preseason testing? Anyone like shark fins? How about that McLaren Honda doorstop? Lewis for #4? Haas on the podium this year?
If you're an IMSA fan, your season has already started. Anyone else like the new DPi's? Anyone think they should replace P1 cars in the WEC after the last manufacturer pulls out?
NASCAR fans are already knee-deep in their season. Race stages- genius or stupid? Is NASCAR slowly rotting on the vine or just experiencing a lull?
Indycar starts this week. My money is on Newgarden. I'd love for Daly to win a race but would be content with a couple of podiums. Waiting for Champ-Car bodywork to come back next year.
Feel free to comment on Australian Supercars, sprint cars and (ugh) Formula E. This is the motorsports thread.
Let's hear it from racin' fans!

We won't really know were the teams stand in F1 until Melbourne in a few weeks time. After all you dont want to give too much away to your rivals in testing.

F1 should be interesting this year, with the new regs and all. I'd like to see Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull duking it out, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mercedes out in front again. The Williams is looking OK, they just have to get the newbie to stop pranging his car. :)

Other unaswered questions for this year

Will Alonso refer to his car as a F2 car (formally GP2)?
Will the bleep person be out of a job this year?

;)

I'm beginning to think that the only thing the Honda F1 engine will be good for at Monaco will be to keep yachts from floating away.

F1 2017, shaping up to be an even fight between Ferrari and Mercedes. We might see some upsurge from Red Bull even. Sad though that McLaren has fallen so far back from the hey-days of Hakkinnen and Coulthard.

The Day O' Racin' 2017 is coming up this weekend. Anyone have a fav race or will you hope for rain at your house so you can justify staying in and watching them all?
I'll be rooting for Alonso at Indy myself, but usually watch Monaco over breakfast, too.

Who ever leads into the first corner at Monaco usually wins the race, though a lot could depend on if we get a SC or VSC, chances are high we'll get one or both of them.

Team Ferrari's message in super encrypted channel during today's Monaco GP: Kimi, Sebastian is faster than you...

Exciting end to the Indy 500. Didn't see the crash though, but hopefully everyone made it out ok.

Indy 500 was, once again, the best race of the day by far. In fact, one of the best 500s I've seen in 35 years of watching. I sure hope Alonso comes back- he can win this. Monaco looked great as always but was a little bit of a snoozer. Charlotte ended at 1am, long after everyone had gone to bed. What else is there to say?

Well not quite, when Mansell went to Indy car he was the reigning world champion and I think the only driver to hold both championships at the same time (for about a week).

But Canada as often gave us one of the better races of the season.

˄Perhaps, but it is difficult to be satisfied when the battle for the lead went cold after Verstappen's retirement (at least he could have given us a major fight with Bottas). Hell, Lewis even had the pleasure of lifting his thumb as he lapped Scroll, and Ricciardo never suffered from any major threat to his third position, since Perez wasn't entirely fit for the battle and he refused to let Ocon pass, who had tyres in better shape than those of the Mexican driver.

As for Indycar, another spectacular race in Texas. Too bad Sato's excessive enthusiasm deprived us of another potential photo finish...

I doubt Verstappen could have challanged for the lead as Lewis was pulling away, and I suspect Bottas would have got past him during the pit stops. Besides Max was lucky not to get a puncture when he clipped Vettel's wing.

As for Force India they should have swapped the cars around, Perez had plenty of opportunity to try pass Ricciardo and once he dropped out of the DRS zone he was under pressure from Ocon we never saw Perez really put Ricciardo under any real pressure.

But whilst Vettel was unlucky with having to change his front wing and dropping back he did get a lucky with retirements ahaed of him.

Well what happened to Ferrari's pace in qualy for the this weekends race, they were over a second behind Lewis' pole position time with Lewis' temamate almost a half second behind him.

But no points are awarded on Saturday

Oh my God, what a race! Craziest I've seen in a long time! Good on Stroll...at 18 years old first podium is incredible. Vettel gets angry, Hamilton almost loses his headrest...Bottas is down a lap and finishes second...Glad I got to watch this one start to finish!

An unpredictable and bump-filled F1 race. I'm sure Liberty is studying it to figure out how to get that kind of action into more races. Between Baku and NASCAR at Sonoma, the Indycar race was (for a change) the dullest race of the weekend.
