How do you think we will feel if "Discovery" is just a decent show but nothing special?

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

The trailer did have that look like it was rehashing the other Trek's style. I kind of sensed that just from the dialog I picked up. I want the characters to sound like real, interesting people.

One good thing is, it's not on network TV so the restrictions are less--they can be more free to do or say what they want. The subject matter doesn't always have to be careful as if the executives are always looking over their shoulders.

We'll all let out a collective "meh"...

And then spend the next 12 months harping on about Gene's vision and how CBS is spitting on his grave by not making a literal clone of TOS/TNG.

Can't wait!

Most Star Trek post-TNG falls into that category for me, so I won't really mind. I just have the nagging feeling that it's going to be a trainwreck given all the delays and Fuller leaving, so I'll be pleased if it just turns out to be a solid show.

TOS is the only true to GR's vision for me ;)

The rest is just really, really, complicated and complimentary fan fiction.

If it's great and I like it, I'll watch every episode as it is released.

If it's terrible and I hate it, I'll watch every episode as it is released.

It's probably going to take three or four terrible Star Trek series to get me to stop watching at this point.
