You sound angry.

It does fit in with the meaning of plagiarism.. no matter how much you stomp your feet ;)

Definition of plagiarism: an act of copying the ideas or words of another person without giving credit to that person.

They will give credit. They have to, for legal reasons. They also have the license. They're also not "copying" somebody's idea if they're actually changing the look, right? :p

-> It's not plagiarism.

It's really simple. Whether or not you make up your own definition of plagiarism doesn't really matter to anybody here.

"wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work.

It fits.

Not in the slightest.
It's not wrongful, they have a license. They own the intellectual property.
They're not representing Star Trek as their own original work, they're crediting the original creator.

They still kinda sorta maybe probably look like Klingons. If a Star Trek fan, and probably any other mildly interested scifi fan, were to be shown a picture of the Klingons from this trailer (and BEFORE seeing or having any knowledge of the trailer) they'd immediately recognize them as Klingons.

Close enough for government work, or in this case, Hollywood.

First comment I got from someone I showed was.. they don't look like Klingons. Where's their hair?

I've heard some bizarre stuff but this might take the cake.

It is literally impossible for them to be plagiarizing Klingons since they own the concept and will be giving credit to the original creators. CGI tentacle monsters. Talking trees. An entire species of Shia LeBouef lookalike ax-murderers. If they wanted to, any of those could be Klingons.

Who knows, maybe Discovery will reveal the true reason for Klingon hatred of tribbles! In actuality, tribbles are the horrifically warped victims of a terrible experiment gone wrong and these mutated Klingons must be wiped from the galaxy to hide the Empire's shame!!

I don't get it. I am allowed to think that the new creators have plagiarised a known quantity originated years ago. Klingons are not their invention but they have certainly screwed with them.
You can think it. You can say it. You can post it. It's still not accurate. Screwing something up isn't plagiarism. It's screwing something up.
If it was, Star Trek has been plagiarizing the Klingons since their second appearance.

You seem to follow me around on all these boards picking fights.

You post a lot and the posts are often very contrarian. This is a discussion forum so people react to your posts and they might not always agree with you. @Locutus of Bored has just explained this to you in the Misc forum, like I'm doing now.
You are free to post but your posts are not free from criticism. I and others merely disagreed with your opinion here and did so in a civil way. Never attacking you.

Sure, you are allowed to think that. It just has no relation to the actual meaning of the word. They cannot plagiarize because they own the IP and give credit.

Hah, the lack of hair is actually one of my pet peeves about aliens in many TV shows. It's like hair is this insanely special human feature. Star Trek has traditionally been pretty good about this but it's common in many other franchises (see: lots of hairless aliens in Mass Effect).
I wonder why having two eyes, one mouth and one nose is totally accepted as being common but hair is super-rare.

And... when Star Trek does feature aliens with hair... they all have the same hairdo. That is pretty underwhelming, too. *giggle*

I think they have..
So these are your Klingons?

If real life followed canon as closely as some want Star Trek to follow it, we'd all still be chipping obsidian for weapons and scraping hides.

Stone knives and bear skins!

I feel compelled to correct your incorrect canon as per my obsidian chipping remark. Usage of manufactured or created stone tools predates obsidian, therefore you would have to correctly state that stone was a prequel to obsidian, which you didn't, so you are WRONG WRONG WRONG!

:D

The "average viewer" doesn't give two spits if the Klingons don't look like Worf.

I know I don't, and I'm a bit more than an average viewer.

What I care about is that the show looks good, tells good stories, and doesn't bore me to death recounting details from previous shows. It's a big galaxy out there. Let's see something new.

I agree.

And I must say that the idea of the owners of the Star Trek franchise plagerizing themselves is up there on the list of most wacky statements I have ever read on THIS part of the board. And that is really saying something

Jeepers, Mr. Kent.
It's new Trek. Can't we all just be excited about that?
