Can all canon and continuity flaws in Trek be explained away by characters being drunk or high?

Last month in the "Discovery" forum I asked if the characters should do things like weed and it has just came to me that maybe we have already seen characters do this via canon/continuity flubs. Just think of a fe examples:
1 Mitchell thinks Kirk's middle initial is R when we know it isn't. Well we did see him and Kellerman in some magic garden before that scene that he created and who knows what he was growing in that garden. Maybe he and Kellerman were doing more than eating juicy fruit so he was not in his right mind when he made Kirk's grave.
2 Spock says that a Eugenic's war happened in the 1990's. Perhaps he simply had a little to much Saurian Brandy before going on duty and everyone was to embarrased for him to point out his mistake. Even Khan didn't want to make him look bad and correct him later in the episode.
3 Data's cat went from a male to female without anyone mentioning it. My theory is Spot one night got hold of some very potent catnip and because a cat never knows when to stop basically got way to high. His nasty habit on jumping on consoles ended in tragic results when he went into a room and did it but it was a room with a airlock and got sucked out into space. Geordi felt bad so he got Data another cat but could only fine a female cat so he just programed Data to think Spot had always been a female. Also if you look at the episodes you might notice that Spot has gone through some different looks so this might have happened more than once.

Just no.

Kirk's middle initial is a T, the R is from a friendly nickname that Mitchell gave Kirk years ago. The Eugenics wars were in the 1990's, there are quite a few things in Star Trek that happen before 2017, just not in our timeline, it's a fictional universe. Data had a number of cats, all named Spot.

McCoy said that the Vulcans had been conquered, which was never mentioned again.

The Trills on DS9 had spots and could use transporters, unlike the Trills on TNG.

Betazoids can read Ferengi's emotions, except when they can't.

Saavik somehow transformed from Kirstie Alley to Robin Curtis.

Let's simplify things and just say that Q gets drunk sometimes . . . :)

I think you mean unlike the Trills on TNG. ;)

The more episodes you make the harder it can be to keep track of continuity, we're lucky if they manage to keep continuity within an individual series rather than the franchise as a whole.

Now a lot of continuity errors could have been avoided by dropping a line an episode to explain it away. In the case of the Trills, the Transporters might have had an upgrade to overcome that issue. But really it shouldn't be up to the audiance to fill in the blanks esp. in situations where the writers call our attention to something. i.e can't use transporters, no way to replace torpedeos etc...

Just blame it all on the Temporal Cold War, where one faction attempted to change the timeline, only for the people charged with maintaining the Temporal Accords, correcting things, albeit not perfectly.

Or data was prone to getting stoned and resequencing spots dna.

Only if this character is Q.

Q in 2368: "Eh, Trills aren't hot enough. I'm changing their physical features to be more aesthetically pleasing and making sure nobody notices anything changed."

McCoy said that the Vulcans had been conquered, which was never mentioned again.
The reference was to Spock's "my father's race." So McCoy's comment concerning conquered might not have meant all Vulcans.

At some point in history, Sarek's people were conquered.

I think that Odan and Jadzia weren't the the same species. We saw with Riker that different species can carry a Trill symbiont (although Riker had difficulty), but while Riker did have the symbiont, would he have been considered to be a Trill? I say yes.

Similarly, The young woman who was the replacement host for Odan wasn't a Trill until the symbiont was part of her. She was the same species as the previous Odan host, but neither of them was the same species as Jadzia.

Jadzia was of the Trill species prior to having a symbiont, and would have been a Trill even if she never received a symbiont.

Don't get me started on Chris Pine.

I don't know about this argument, it was pretty clear Riker couldn't carry the symbiont for very long, and it doesn't explain the difference between shows between the complete suppression of the host in TNG and the blending in DS9, or Odan's apparent indifference to resuming romance with the lover of a previous host. And we don't see any other non-spotted Trill species in DS9. I don't think we need logical gymnastics to explain that the producers just didn't want a cute actress not to look cute.

Guys, a temporal cold war, a temporal hot war, Borg, Ferengi and crazy Romulans disrupting Earth's past. A madman with a galactic-history-altering delete ray running amok for 300 years in the delta quadrant. 29th century technology in 1996. Stealing whales. Transparent aluminium in 1984.

If that stuff isn't enough to explain anything and everything looking or being different, then fine. They were high and drunk and on dilithium crystal meth the whole time.
