Updating TOS

Okay this is a pipe dream or it may happen far in the future but more than likely this will not happen but a fan can dream can't he?

TOS is 50 years old so what could be done to keep it going for the next 50 years? I'm sure by 2066 it will look extremely dated. This is what I would like to see. Now I want to preface it by saying I do love the original series and the remastered version but I am a special effects junkie so I wonder what if they went further?

What if some day they strip everything away from the visuals except the performance of the actors themselves and redesign everything else from ship interiors and planets and special effects and updated everything to a more futuristic and modern esthetic?

I am sure to some purists this is blasphemy but I would love to see it!

I've also noticed that the Mona Lisa is looking a bit old fashioned too. Maybe add a hoody and stick a mobile phone in her hand and a piercing in her eyebrow and nose, you know modernise her a bit. :)
Also, update the Magna Carta in to txt spk so 'the kids' can understand it.
You know these things come from the past, why can't we just let them be?

LOL! So I take it that I should a no then?

Not a fan of the remastered TOS episodes. I think the exterior shots of the Enterprise in particular look pretty weak. I get why some people like the updated effects but they aren't for me. I prefer watching the show as it was originally presented.

This is what I had in mind.

It's ok as a fan project, but TOS is fine in its original form. TOS-R is seen by some as a big mistake. George Lucas' tampering with the original SW trilogy should be an example of what not to do.

I like the changes George Lucas did with Star Wars so that is why I wouldn't mind seeing TOS further updated.

George Lucas updating Star Wars is fine.
CBS Updating TOS is fine.

The difference is that CBS allows us to have the original unaltered versions in a modern format. Lucas wasn't willing to do that out of ego and vanity. Not cool bro.

That being said, I think the original Star Trek is just fine as she was. Original effects. Everything. For the sake of staying true to what it is and what it was and what they were able to achieve at that time.

Now, if you wanted to do a full on remake of the original series for a modern television/netflix/amazon audience? Go for it.

Said this elsewhere when somebody posted that, but they lost me by changing the captain's chair.

While I don't mind the idea of updating the displays conceptually, it would have been nice if they'd maintained something of the original's aesthetic, e.g., the color scheme. Also, why flatten the elevator alcove? Too much change for the sake of change there.

I kinda sorta liked some of what they did, but overall, yeah...the new effects look too cartoony, and I much prefer the original experience, warts and all.

I hope in the Han Solo movie Han says something like "I always shoot first".

I don't find that the new effects shots add that much, although jazzing up the alien vessels is ok. I prefer the original, grainy shots of the Enterprise if I'm honest.

I could probably get on board with a new Phase II style animated show that retains the style of TOS but moves the tech somewhat towards the look of TMP, while adopting logical use of more modern tech concepts into the stories.

I admit though, I'm impressed with what they can do these days. If I was tech savvy, I'd have a lot of fun with this.

I like seeing the recreations, but the originals should always be accessible.

Very much agreed. There were too many alterations there. What should be done is add, not change. Allow the screens on the walls to have moving video, but 60s-style video based on the still images on the original bridge.
