Deadline reports that Discovery will have a companion aftershow called Talking Trek. No word on who is hosting or even where it will be airing, but presumably it'll also be on CBS All Access.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this news mentioned earlier despite it being announced during yesterday's presentation.

Wasn't this revealed like a year ago? I'm pretty sure I read about it somewhere, not in an official capacity, but from a third-party like Deadline.

The Deadline story says it was announced during the presentation, although it's possible it was just a confirmation or Deadline's wording referred to the episode order extension which was mentioned in their story.

Neelix, it has to be Neelix.
A.V. Club says it should be Wil Wheaton. I'm all for that idea.

I'd certainly not heard this before yesterday. It's certainly a new idea and, to state the obvious, it suggests they feel there will be something to talk about each week!

I kinda hope they get into some real meat. I'm not saying address every whiny fan complaint, but at least touch on it. Don't just be some insufferable propaganda piece like Talking Dead.

Please not Chris Hardwick, that's all I ask. I like the guy, and the Nerdist podcast, but his enthusiasm while hosting a TV show gets to be too much sometimes.
At least you wouldn't need to use the captions, I think all but the completely deaf can hear him shout-talking.

I wonder if this show will be available to Canadians like myself? Maybe it will be on Space or Crave? If it's anything like Talking Dead, actors from the show may appear. Since production is in Toronto, you think it would be a natural for it to be carried in a Canada as well.

Space sometimes has their own after shows

I didn't even know they were going to do until I read about it while looking at the first pics we got, yesterday. It does make sense because those type of aftershow's are becoming more popular but I also take it that each ep will be released on weekly basis instead of big lump like a Netflix show. Who do you think should host it? To me Shatner or George Takei would both be good choices, especially if you could get them to do it together.
I do hope the show isn't just propaganda and if a episode is bad they admit it.

I'd be really surprised if they'd admit on the show that an episode is bad. lol! I like Chris Hardwick but I'm so tired of Talking Dead. If you went by Talking Dead, there has never been an episode of Walking Dead that wasn't over the top amazeballs. lol! Talking Trek will basically be a commercial for the series with actors popping in, nothing more, nothing less.

There are good and bad aftershows. Talking Dead is good when the guests are actors from the show, or preferably people from the crew who can give nerds like us understanding into why stuff was done the way they did it. When TD has "superfans", I feel little engagement from the over-the-top gushing that they add to it. Chris Hardwick is a good host and does his best to channel that, but since he's also directed to be OTT awesome for the show it just kills the enjoyment when they have fans on.

Except when Yvette Nicole Brown is on. Her passion for the show is adorable. :)

Right now, I'm enjoying the official Doctor Who aftershow because their guests are pretty much ONLY people who worked on the show. Their host is unbelievably perky for what she's talking about, but she does have good questions to ask and comes off as a genuine fan.

If this Trek aftershow has people from the production side on regularly, and they show peoper behind-the-scenes stuff instead of getting bogged down in live polls and quizzes, I'll watch. Somehow.
