News Companion Aftershow Talking Trek Announced

Trekkies love behind-the-scenes stuff so if they produce it well I could see it being worthwhile. My interest in The Walking Dead varies with my mood and my interest in the guests. The Walking Dead has so many foreign actors sometimes it's worth tuning in just to see what they sound like.

For those of us who don't follow the walking dead, what are you talking about?
After The Walking Dead airs, they air a show where a host and three guests will discuss the episode that just aired along with showing behind-the-scenes info. The guests are an actor from the show, one of the writers/producers/directors and/or celebrity "superfans".

Eh, if I'm paying the ~$8/month, I might as well watch all of the Star Trek content they offer.

I'll watch it once, just to see what's it like. What I don't need is even MORE people telling me what good Star Trek is. Like everybody else, I got my own version of that.

If it's informative with actor interviews and the like, I could see myself watching it weekly, as long as it doesn't turn into The Star Trek Cheerleading Show.

Although gorgeous babes in skimpy Trekish outfits with pompoms and phasers might get my attention. :D

I'm not clear on whether it will even be on Space (and Netflix for those outside North America) but if it is, I'll try it once or twice. It doesn't sound like something I'd be likely to watch regularly.

I'll give it two or three episodes, and if it is interesting and informative I'll keep on. If it's just gushing fans with no behind the scenes insight, I won't.

My pick for host? Wil Wheaton.

Something else to expect is we will also proably get post- episode shows at places like AfterBuzz, Collider or ScreenJunkies or podcasts as well. That means we don't necessary have to watch the offical show to get the same experience.

Definitely! In fact, these are the kind of things that need to be done to keep Trek in people's minds and keep interest going.

I will watch if there is actual behind the scenes footage and/or cast and crew. Talking Dead is great most of the time, but there are some horrible aftershows out there: the one they tried after Bates Motel and then After the Thrones or whatever.

A show like this would of been great back in the old days of TNG and DS9. Assuming Discovery is as good, what's not to love? You can never have enough insight when it comes to Trek.

My experience of how fans actually react to Star Trek means I don't see this working at all. There's no way the punditry is going to be anything but one-sided at best, and some kind of insider mouthpiece for the production at worst.

It's more of an idea to float once the preconceptions go away. Once Discovery is well and truly established with great characters and story arcs, and it feels like everybody is into Star Trek again. A discussion show back in 1987 discussing TNG Season 1 or in 2002 about Enterprise - as much as I love that last one in the way nobody else seemed to - sounds like a bit of a joke really. As does this from my admittedly cynical perspective.

So when do we start arguing about whether Talking Trek is a cannon (sic) violation, or whether it's in the Prime or Kelvin universe?
It's clearly set in another universe intersecting ours but at a slightly different frequency so that we can't see it.
