However, I think if I have one criticism, it's that the ship interiors look a bit dark, no? I like Starfleet bridges to be flooded with light. All the ships have had brightly lit interiors. It's a minor critique, but it occurred to me. I don't think anyone would want to work in a dimly lit office.

Agreed, I like how the JJ Enterprise had decent lighting. Perhaps the shots here show the bridge at red alert? We do hear the klaxon.

BTW, which ship is this:

Shenzhou.

See this breakdown.

My two cents:

I really liked it. I think it looks amazing, like almost movie quality. (Especially compared to The Orville look from Tuesday, i liked that, but the visuals are magnitudes different).
The aliens look great, even the Klingons look fine to me.
The last thing I thought of when I finished the trailer was "seems like they are back to real Star Trek" in terms of discovery, contemplating humanity's place in the universe, etc.

Couple notes about the trailer edits. The Netflix one does give a little more feel about Burnham's arc and mood, but the CBS one is better in pretty much every other way. Also, there are two main points where the "acting" issues can probably be put down to the editing: when Georgiou is saying on the planet that they should consider Burnham getting her own command, the words "Commander Burnham" are totally editing in from somewhere else. Also the exchange of "Starfleet doesn't fire first" ..." we have to" is probably chopped together. There is no way to get a sense of the acting quality from this trailer as it is so chopped up. But that is a teaser trailer for you.

Most of the reaction I see around the web to this trailer has been mixed. The main complaints being the Klingons, the overall look/design of the show, and to a lesser extend the bad acting.

I'm not familiar with Michelle Yeoh, but she is really bad in the this trailer. Extremely unnatural delivery.

It was when it came out, and the Netflix one is different.

A teaser trailer is a teaser trailer. ;)

CBS and Netflix are bound by the various laws of copyright, etc. but the trailer is copied and uploaded to other Youtube channels within minutes. There is no reason why someone can't see either one.

How do you judge acting from this footage?

Trailers are not assembled by directors, and rarely are final takes used. They work with what material is given to the trailer company to make the biggest hook for an audience.

And taken down just as fast. CBS is on top of this one.

Are you sure it's not just her accent?

Her lines in the desert seem heavily edited. "Commander Burnham" seems to be coming from a different scene altogether.
Yes. It wasn't her accent. She was just awkward in it. Her emotional tone feels off. Very stiff.

Sonequa Martin isn't good in it either, but not as bad as Yeoh.

Bad acting? Unnatural delivery? In teaser trailer about 90 seconds or so?

That is the very worst excuse to gripe about something that I have ever heard.

There was a list of twenty about an hour ago on Youtube.

I'm not reading 34 pages of threads, so I'm guessing most of what I'm saying has been covered, but just in case....

If this show takes place 10 years before Kirk and Spock, then Spock is on the Enterprise with Pike. So the look and feel of this trailer is just all wrong. Plus, this was a time in the prime universe where different ships had different insignias. Why would Discovery have the Enterprise's insignia?

The look and feel felt wrong. It didn't have a Star Trek feel to it, and I didn't sense the optimism. If this truly is supposed to be a prequel to TOS, then the show should reflect the optimism of the original series and TNG. Star Trek is not supposed to be dark and gritty. It's supposed to be optimistic and positive.

That doesn't mean there won't be conflict and adventure, as TOS showed, but the show should be first about humanity at its finest.

Ultimately, while I would still watch this show under ordinary circumstances, I am not going to pay to watch it.

Another thing that TOS was about was not pre-judging something.

How can you possibly claim there is no optimism or positivity from a 90 second teaser?

Where is YOUR optimism and positivity?

Wow. All the ones I've tried to click on have been removed due to copyright. Of course, it might not be CBS but just someone claiming copyright because...reasons.

I'm not doubting CBS aren't taking action, but it won't stop the trailer getting streamed and I doubt CBS or Netflix are particularly worried about it.

No, the silliest complaints about the the trailer are about the look of it. Mostly the Klingons.

Bad acting is a legitimate concern. It will make or break the show. No one outside the internet cares about lens flares.

Is it colorless enough though? I can't take my manbaby shows seriously if there isn't enough brown.

As Rogue One proved, visual continuity is impossible without literally building sets out of cheap cardboard. So I hear.

Bad acting is a legitimate concern when it comes to something of more substance than a 90 second teaser where everything we see and hear is not in context.

The "look" of the show is the entire point of the teaser.

There's an upside-down partial registry number visible beside her right hand.
...C-122...
Shenzhou.

We may not have even seen the actual USS Discovery in this.;)

Has it been officially confirmed that Discovery is even a ship as opposed to just being the name of the show?

I don't know which of the casting/character info is even from CBS itself or just speculation.
