CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

If Peters did not upset them with his actions I still think the quality of the film they were making, and also the timing might have started cbs off anyway,The fact that peters fucked it up with his actions just a coincidence.

That is such a specious argument. It has nothing to do with quality. It has everything to do with trying to build a profitable studio on the back of the Star Trek IP.

I believe CBD did look a little petty and I am not defending the actions of Peters, however claiming he "stole" the money is a bit of a stretch.

I don't think the quality is what got to CBS. I think it was the grandstanding on top of their IP and trying to make money off of it. Things certainly got heated, but CBS' stance of protecting their IP from such infringement makes perfect sense to me.

I mean, Axanar's merchandising was very over the top, and that alone would raise CBS attention, much less claims to be in competition with CBS' own productions.

One thing that is always touted about Axanar is the "quality."

The majority of the money went to pay for a now-defunct studio, and all it produced was a couple of minutes of walk-and-talk shot in the parking lot. The film was never made, therefore the question of quality is moot.

Blaming CBS/P for that is a non-starter, since AP already had the money and court docs state that there was no injunction to prevent him from moving forward. Sets were never finished, no more footage was shot.

The fault for not making the film lies solely at the feet of Lord Axahat.

He was selling merchandise that has Star Trek on it. He didn't license it. That's theft.

How is it possible that CBS would be upset at the quality of Axanar? There is literally NO film to judge it's quality. Zero. Zip. Zilch. CBS and Paramount were so awed by Peters's words? It's a nonsensical argument.

Star Trek Continues is arguably of equivalent or better quality, considerably more derivative (from a "copying Trek IP" point-of-view), features professional actors and has former Trek special effects people (such as Doug Drexler) working on it - yet, for some reason, CBS has no issue with them...

It all comes down to Vic Mignogna maintaining a good relationship with CBS since he started STC, even to the point that they helped get an episode back up on YouTube after it was mistakenly pulled due to a false copyright claim. Peters has been antagonistic towards CBS since the start.

Because Vic and his partners produced fan films as the donors intended.

So, what makes one fan-film production "better" than another, let alone the claim of "as good if not better than CBS can do"??

1) Better CGI scenes: Axanar's was pretty good, but that's a testament to the computer technology and artist. (Hint: he wasn't Alec Peters.)

2) Better sets & uniforms: Well, it's hard to judge Axanar's sets as we never saw good photos of the still-not completed sets, but to give the benefit of doubt, they would probably ended up being on-par with other good fan-film sets.

3) Better acting: Considering they hired all professionals (save one) to be in front of the camera, how could Axanar miss?

4) Better story plot: Some fans would be turned off by a straight up war story; others would love it. As a bit of a history buff, I had some problems with how they laid out the course of the war, but overall I think I'd give Axanar a passing grade.

5) Better script: Fans can forgive "issues" with items 1-2-3 above if the script is good. Even a boring story plot can be watchable with a well-written script and halfway decent acting. But all the great visuals are worthless if the script sucks, and even the best actors in the world can't make a bad script sound good. As we know, the Axanar script was re-written once, but rumor has it that even the re-write left a lot to be desired.

So, again, can someone tell me just how Axanar stands up to the claim of being the best fan-film ever, as good as anything CBS could do???

IMHO... A fan film is made by a group of fans that get together and create the production. Which is better than one that collects a ton of money and sub contracts the work out to professionals.

To me its simple. its something that captivates me, looks good, decent writing etc
I hope the 2 x 15 minutes episodes are made but wont hold my breath.
I dont think anyone said it would be better than what CBS could do, but parts of it like the story for example might be on a par with the CBS.
Look at the utter shit that is Nu Trek for example.

I am not knocking the love and effort put in by many others in their fan production but from my own taste and personal opinion all others were lacking in some area that made they look average to downright pitiful, which is understandable as they are projects of love and fans dont have that time , money etc, but that wont change the truth most are not worth watching and some people who dont like criticism were all over that comment like flies on shit. cos I had the audacity to mention it.

Alec Peters and company have said Axanar would be better than what CBS could do . . . for years.

Ah ..ok.
I thought it was some people on here who believed it.
Peters has an ego for sure, shame as he had a good thing going til he blew it with his ego, mouth, greed and stupidity.

Maybe not "stole" but probably "took under false pretenses" since he said he had CBS's permission and yet, here we are.

It is also set in TOS time frame with no changes or updates to sets, props, or costumes using iconic characters. It would be hard for anyone to mistake it for a genuine Official Trek Production.........it's more of an homage. Plus, as others have stated they maintained a good relationship with CBS. You can't "poke the bear" and talk shit about the Kelvin movies like Alec and RMB did, then steal their look and expect CBS to be happy with you.

Sorry, my post was intended to reinforce that STC was going about it the right way, as they didn't get sued for doing essentially the same things that Axanar claims is why they were singled out, but I guess my wording didn't convey that very well.
