Sonequa Martin-Green is Your DSC Star

SG1, in it's early years, had a perfect blend of planet of the week stories and arcs. Now days, with series doing these 10 to 12 episode seasons, basically all you're ever going to get is soap operas. Which isn't bad if you're into the story line, in fact with a good story line it's wonderful, but still I miss that blend of planet of the week stories and arcs.

It's funny, how different some things are perceived by different people. I for myself always let out a sigh, when I fire up a new series on Netflix and find out, that it has twenty episodes per season or more. For me, very often it leads to unnecessary and often illogical twists, turns and detours in the story, which I wouldn't mind been let out. To me the only twenty-something-episodes-show recently, which was able to keep up the pace for a good part of the season is "Designated survivor" (you can take that as a recommendation ;-) )And this one isn't even through with its season...

Since recent, looking at the thread title, I keep hearing this...

Just realized I have aunts named Frankie and Frances. Not sure what my grandparents were thinking.

Or what they would have inflicted upon a third child.

Francine? Franko? Franscico? Fran? Frans? Frannie? Francesca?

They either had a good trip to France, maybe their honeymoon, or they always felt bad that they never went to France (or San Fransico?) when they were younger.

My other two Aunts, my Uncles and Dad have non Franc names.

Either way, their information goes completely unsourced. Since the already have a reputation for being unreliable for future projects, they absolutely need to provide sources. At least with Wikipedia, you can track down the original information if there's any kind of validity behind the claims.

An off topic comment. Forgive me, Moderator.
Frota Estelar Brasil (Starfleet Brasil) fan club held a convention in São Paulo last Saturday (08) and brought news about the Discovery series. But surprising news was released at the end of the event: CBS contacted the group and banned the use of the name "Starfleet" from now on. Now CBS are going to tell me that I can´t use the name starship or starbase or Federation.
This can happen with any fan club.
This is ridiculous.

You should create a new thread on this in the fan section.

And, yes, I've been in that situation often enough that nowadays I don't believe any on-line "rumors" or "spoilers" until they're officially confirmed.

"Best not to believe the internet when it comes to the entertainment industry. :)

Still beats "Fred Johnson" from The Expanse.

No it doesn't. :P - it is inspired by the One Armed Man from The Fugitive.

Honestly, I don't understand how Rainsford ever got traction anyway. It was a code word being used in a studio in Vancouver (Discovery films in Toronto) and somehow someone thought this was related to Discovery and the rumour conflated to the point that it actually was listed on Sonequa Martin-Green's IMDB up until the Michael Burnham name was announced.

Because it is the internet. Media website are more interested in click bait than the truth.

Wow, that's crazy, especially since that particular rumor was shot down pretty damn quickly.

I hadn't heard that rumour, but it isn't "crazy" that people would still believe it. It depends on how much a person follows the development of the show, the rumours, their internet habits, etc.

I know a few very serious, obsessed fans who have no interest in following rumours or legit announcements. They are eagerly awaiting Discovery, but have better things to do than us folks are doing here. ;)

Twenty plus episodes is the standard for US TV series that are from network television. Has been this way for decades.

Check out how many episodes a TV season can mean in South Korea. :p

I think it funny that you name Designated Survivor. It is a great show and I love it, but the Hannah Well's* investigation has been surviving on those twists, turns and detours since a couple of episodes in. They haven't been "unnecessary" or "illogical", but they have been a bit cliched. Being driven of the road at the last minute, the bad guy with all the answers getting killed when she pulls the gun that two agents fail to check her for, etc.

The writer's need to keep the mystery going but how they are doing it is often unoriginal. A fantastic story though - those complaints are minor.

* Well's herself isn't very interesting. The character has been done on TV and movies a thousand times before. Every other character has developed nicely as the show progresses and we earn ore about them. Well's has no story except the investigation. Atwood is the more interesting of the two and his tragic story arc deserves more screen time.

Is IMDB still open to editing by the public?
For better or worse, that makes it about as reliable as Wikipedia.

Kor
Much less so in fact - Wikipedia's insistence on sourcing facts means that in the long run it ends up pretty accurate, especially on less obscure articles. IMDB just say stuff, no sources, no provenance, no expressions of doubt. It's there so it's true.
