Thor: Ragnarok

You're right:

The synopsis I heard from Collider (likely from EW) is early encounter with Hela sending him to Sakaar, not necessarily that it was in New York. I think there's concept art of Hela in New York (in addition to the one at the gates of Asgard) so I probably combined the two things.

Finally!

Damn, that was...FUN!

I was already more excited about this movie than the other two lukewarm entries in this series, but this teaser took it up a few notches. :D

Ok, that trailer is awesome. Its really gotten me excited for the movie, even if its not really related to the actual events of Ragnarok as shown in the comics. Hela looks really creepy, the action looks good, the alien world looks cool, and we got a few great lines. One of the things Thor has always had going for it as a movie franchise is that Hemsworth is very good as Thor. He just usually doesn't have great writing in his solo movies, but Ragnarok seems to be a big step up (not having Portman or being stuck on Earth has probably helped a lot). Its easily the MCU movie I'm most excited for. Honestly, its the only MCU movie I'm excited for. GotG 2 and SMH look like they're going to be some of the weaker MCU movies, while Thor looks like it will be very good. Its an interesting turn around from how its been in the past, with Thor's movies usually being weaker.

This looks really fun. I have never even bothered to see the second film. That just looked dark and dull to me. Not much a fan of the first film which was ok at best. But this looks completely different. Really impressive and colorful design. Great cast. Most of all the Hulk! Not just that he appears but sounds like he is finally going to be treated like a full character. I think Ruffulo is fantastic and will give him more to work with.

Great trailer! Looks like a ton of fun. Thor is definitely on my must-see now.

Is it just me or does that trailer have a very Guardians of the Galaxy vibe to it? The colorful title font, the light hearted feel, the humor, the music, all gives me a GoG vibe. Not that it is a bad thing, on the contrary.

Probably intentional. Those scenes are on an alien world, so they'd try to make it look like what was established in Guardians.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. Chris Hemsworth has shown that he can bring humor to the role, but only Joss Whedon has really tapped into that. Looks like this film will give him the chance to shine on that count.

The costumes for everyone look great, too. Loki's horned helm returns and I'm digging Heimdall's new look.

Yeah, everything looks a win. The costumes look fantastic. And I love that scene in the arena where Thor sees the Hulk and goes "Yeah! We know each other. He's a friend from work." LOL. Chris does that scene perfectly.

I loved the look of "Huh? What the fuck?" on Jeff Goldblum's face before looking over to Loki.

Even Thor has a helmet on in the arena. When was the last time he wore one in the movies?
His first scene of the first film, I believe.

Well that was amazing, I love how every movie now that heads off into the lesser realms is taking on the 80's scifi aesthetic.

In this case, I thing it is. Not because I don't want it to be entertaining, but Guardians has a tone that's only appropriate for Guardians, maybe Ant-Man.

I don't know. I would see your point if the THOR movies had been deadly serious up until now, but the series has always had its goofy, light-hearted side. In the first movie alone, you had lots of fish-out-of-water humor with Thor wandering into a pet store to demand a horse, and his friends being described as "Robin Hood, Jackie Chan, and Xena," and so on. And Thor was often quite funny in THE AVENGERS movies, too. And don't forget the Hulk pummeling Loki: "Puny god!"

It's not like they're suddenly making a major shift in tone here.

And I'm sure there's plenty of angst and drama in the movie as well. Cate Blanchett as Hela does not look like she's going for laughs.

No, she looks like Elizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa in the Power Rangers reboot. Don't get me wrong, I think this movie has more potential than SM: Homecoming (too teenager friendly) and GoG Vol2 (it's going to be very entertaining, but not better than its predecessor), but the trailer leaves much to be desired. At least they didn't show Dr. Strange. I hope they keep his participation to a minimum in the trailers.

Hela looks like she stepped right out of the original Lee/Kirby comics from the Sixties, so I guess Rita must have stolen her look. :)

Hey, you know what would be great? Since we're in outer space this time, is it too much to hope for a cameo from the "Stone Men from Saturn"--whom Thor fought in his very first comic-book appearance way back in the day?

Guardians-esque, and all the better for it IMO. Then again, I rank the first two movies pretty low on the scale so I could understand that YMMV.

A thought occurs: Perhaps the reason why the Hulk attacks Thor is because he's being manipulated by Loki in some way, which be a node to the first Avengers comic.
