The creator of "Family Guy" is famous for being a Trek fan so, you know he would be familiar with the franchise. It could be either trek's first comedy series or a movie. I wouldn't even mind if it was animated because it seems like Trek will eventually go another show in that format. Jason
I'd rather have him try to play it straight, sort of like his contribution to Cosmos. I mean, he's been doing comedy for so long, why not try to branch out?
Might be fun to have him write an episode of a future series. No way I'd want him creating one, and I'm someone that enjoys his animated comedies.
My expectations are that it'll be at least as unfunny as Hyperdrive or Tripping the Rift were, particularly as Seth MacFarlane is involved. I'm so biased I'm best steering clear altogether.
I'd prefer he do a parody of Star Trek not a Star Trek comedy. Something along the lines of Redshirts.
I think it would be interesting to see him create a trek comedy, or write an episode. someone who is long familiar with the franchise with a comedic edge does present some interesting possibilities. its not like the franchise hasn't had intentionally funny episodes in its various shows.
If you're looking for a family-friendly Star Trek parody, you could try Steak Starbolt from Disney's "Future-Worm!". He'd actually voiced by Jonathan Franks.
They wanted to do one, but CBS nixed the idea. Nothing like turning your nose up at free publicity to a crowd that generally doesn't watch Trek. But, Trek has been mismanaged by all involved for the last decade.
