What do you mostly get out of the trekbbs?

It's a place to use all that film/media analysis stuff I learned in college and never used again in real life.

I'm just here mainly to see the myriad world views on display and interact with individuals on occasion.

If you're being serious, that does explain a lot.

Caption contests and Trek lit are the main areas. I love that I can see authors here talking about the craft in general and their work specifically.

I don't post as much as use too. Now just hang out in the AL and misc. I'm here now for the community, as I have made many friends over the years.

I'm just here to get validation... I mean collect "likes."

Speaking of likes, I am honestly and truly baffled at my low number of likes. I'm not actually bothered/upset by it, more curious from a scientific perspective. I am not a prolific poster but when compared to others who post about the same rate I seem to have an unusually low number (45). I was shocked the other day to find so many posters with numbers in the thousands. I guess I am even more boring than I originally thought (which is pretty boring).

William was a Christian who owned his own business.
And now you willingly became part of Christian's owned business.
Also, I made a lot of friends here, some of which I hang out with in person.
Same here. I joined (twice) because friends were regulars here and urged me to join them. On my way through the ranks I made new friends and am happy to say that quite a lot of these became my RL friends. The same goes for the other boards I frequent. Unfortunately, almost none of my online friends live close enough for frequent meetings but I get to meet everyone occasionally, vacationtime and money permitting. - And, alas, nowadays I have to add: political situation permitting.

As far as serious discussions are concerned I'm sorry to say that on other boards I find it generally easier to conduct them. The TrekBBS has always had an unfortunate tendency to attract frustrated people who find bashing others whom they believe to be weaker than themselves a convenient means to let off steam. In all fairness I have to admit, though, that things have gotten a lot better here in the last decade. Still, I occasionally note a lack of politeness in heated discussions. It is possible to disagree in a respectful and non-violent manner and in my opinion a genuine Trekkie (or Trekker) would apply such methods. After all, peaceful coexistence and cooperation of different cultures is the very core of Trek's philosophy.

Perhaps we can fix that. :techman:

Okay, I have to admit, your signature confused me! I was going to like your post but it said "You like this." I thought, I hadn't even read the post yet, how had I liked it already?! So tricky!
