Thanks for the image link, but I guess I'm not a fan of the "new" design. Painting it brown doesn't help either.
I was originally disappointed that they'd picked a design I had been happy to see in the wastebasket. Trying to keep an open mind. Reserving final judgement until final CG. Even if I don't like the ship it won't be a major detraction for me.
It's not 1995 anymore. Rendering a few pictures or a video of 2 minutes is for the last 15 years a relatively fast job. The technologies of setting up the scene have not progressed enormously either.CGI [..] 15 years ago
People say that this is unfinished CGI but you'd think if that was the case they would show you how it's a work in progress, maybe show the designers tweaking it.
Lot's of the first few trailers for movies have CGI shots that haven't reached the final pass. It's this something that has ever been done before? Releasing a teaser in a subpar quality relative to the final product.

What bothers me is the poor quality of CGI, it's worse than ENT and that was made 15 years ago. People say that this is unfinished CGI but you'd think if that was the case they would show you how it's a work in progress, maybe show the designers tweaking it. I certainly don't watch trek for it's visuals, except for the reboot movies, but it'd be nice if they looked up to date.
I mean, they looked better in Star Trek: Horizon

That is a good looking ship. I like the curve of the forward part of the secondary hull. The nacelle struts are a design Starfleet could evolve to the Galaxy class. I also like the nacelles themselves. They retain some elements we're used to seeing, with the cigar shape adding a nice retro feel. What if it was closer to our own LordSarvain's version?
Just thinking out loud, but the production team missed an opportunity to generate fan enthusiasm by failing to hold a contest to design the Discovery.
