McCoy's kidney pills

How the hell is this not interfering with the timeline? lol We must never send Bones back in time, dammit! hahaha

I remember not putting much stock in her phraseology, when I heard it. HTF would she know if it was an entirely knew organ vs a healed inert one? & since we don't know what the 20th century docs told her, & they don't get at all specific in the scene, I just assumed it wasn't a new organ, & she was just excited, & thought of it that way

As I understand it, a transplanted kidney need not be at the site of the original organ, but can be placed almost anywhere within the body cavity so long as it is attached to the arterial and venous systems. Ergo, patients can accommodate an additional one.

A transplanted kidney does have to feed its processed waste into the urinary bladder, so putting it just off the stomach doesn't do a whole lot of good. And since, as I posted before, the original is usually not removed in the first place, the new one will usually get placed somewhere between it and the bladder to do its job effectively.

^ Look at it this way: You can't prove there was ever a timeline where this didn't happen.
Ahh... but I do know of McCoy, that he has a knack for (or at least a singular history of) interfering with time related life & death situations, & having to have people clean up his mess. Not a big leap to think he might be overstepping his bounds again, for the sake of his predilection toward saving lives

Right about that. Not all of the ureter is transplantable, so that graft kidneys will be placed low in the groin area.

I got a fun theory. What if that old lady was a ancestor of McCoy. She had to save her life so she could go on and give birth to his great-great etc grandfather or grandmother. That is why he had a pill. He has secretly know his entire life that he would eventually have to make that choice.

Other than a lady that old has had all the kids she's going to have, that's a reasonable theory. Probably more along the lines of by giving her that kidney she's around years later to keep her grandson from drowning in the pool or something, but it's a reasonable theory.

Yeah, obviously the patient herself was never going to procreate again, but her survival could have inspired her grandchildren or great-grandchildren in some way.

What's weird is this possibility might go even further than that. What if that pill didn't just grow or repair a new kidney but also helped make her conceive a future child. The genetic material included into the pill comes from Kirk. Kirk could literally be a ancestor of McCoy. This is why he gave Kirk the old glasses as a gift as well. He knew about there future trip in advance and knew they would need them to get some money.

How do you figure that? It just looked like McCoy carried those pills with him at all times, like they were normal prescription medicine from the 23rd century. Don't see any need for Kirk to get involved...

Well the Kirk angle I got to admit was there mostly for the fun of it. I just like the idea that McCoy had this weird destiny from childhood that he carried with him his entire life. He only knew bits and fragments. He would go back in time and create himself. the only reason he knows even this much is because Gary Seven, who seemed to have some knowledge of the future would someday come and tell the old lady what has happened to her. She would then proceed to get hold of camera footage from the hospital of Kirk,McCoy and preserve it in the family through the years. when McCoy became of age he was told of this. This knowledge was such a burden it is what ended his first marriage. he even joined Starfleet because he knew he had to. Then he met Kirk at some point and knew he would have to stay close to him for as long as possible so his furture and thus his past could someday become possible.
