CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Someone help me out here. I only drop in once in a while to see what's going on. What does LFIM stand for?

Mr. Lane, via Axamonitor: “Alec does not own Axanar Productions and has never claimed to.”

My recollection was that the California S Corporation filing listed Alec as the 100% shareholder. Last I heard, if you own 100% of the stock, you are the owner.

While looking for a source for this, I stumbled upon something else peculiar. According to this site, there is an "Axanar Productions" filed in Nevada in 2012 with Alec as all the officers: http://www.nevadacorporates.com/corp/449843.html

Is this just bad data? What is this about?

Not sure what gets asked more often; what LFIM means, or who's Cash Markman?

I'm expecting the report to be filled with nonsense. I've already had Axanar defenders of the faith spreading across my social media (and trying to join our club groups - despite being in the wrong country to join a British fan club) so I'm guessing there's some troop rallying in prep to fight against anyone pointing out huge inaccuracies in the numbers.

Alec must fear a donor lawsuit more than the IRS if he is willing to let Mr. Lane claim that "donor funds were not used for personal expenses" because

a) donor funds were kept in Alec's personal account and spent freely as he desired without clear records, at the same time Alec was claiming in public that they were 'operating as a California not for profit'
b) all corporate law wrt/ taxes, withholdings etc was just flat out ignored
c) "if the above is sloppy bookkeeping... people have advised him of this"

Lessee. :brickwall: ?

Nope.

Wonder if @carlosp has looked into this?

Despite it being only hearsay legally, I am truly dazzled by Mr. Lane's enthusiastic cutting away of all the security-by-obscurity defenses Axanar could have against government action.

And at the same time, how either he or Axanar could think it a *good* thing to tell questioning donors and the press that the money was just going into Alec's pocket like a sole proprietorship, when they advertised it and created it otherwise. That makes the stink of redirecting most of it into an investment he owns even worse.

You don't need to be a tax expert to understand that piling the money up all together is a bad idea. The IRS wants real live concrete numbers, not 'almost $50k' or '17% of whatever the hell I made'.

Providing the benefit of every single doubt in the universe still makes this spectacularly poor bookkeeping, and all by a person who was required to take Tax Law (because it's on the Bar exam).

...Some more shoes are going to have to drop first to raise his profile and make him a more tempting target for prosecution.

Perhaps there is a tripwire somewhere that makes the case qualitatively different. Not filing at all, vs just omitting reports of some compensation? Also, having a history of bankruptcy might raise some priority flags, one could speculate.

I'd love to see the IRS make LFIM squirm just as bad as the next person, but anymore, I doubt it'll happen

If there is one thing I know about the IRS is that EVENTUALLY they will find you. If may take years but they will find you. It doesn't take much for a computer to review which corporations have not filed returns and raise flags.

The Nevada listing is correct; it was the first iteration of Axanar Productions Inc. Peters let the Nevada registration lapse and he registered the corporation in California in 2015.

Alec Peters really needs to produce bank statements if he is really interested in getting the truth out there.
