I liked the DS9/Voy uniforms. They looked comfortable and functional and did not have a skin-tight fit, which made them more believable. It would have been better if they'd been two piece, however.

I actually don't mind Full Red from WOK to TUC.

But if I had to cosplay a convention, it'd be Full Red or Grey Shoulder from TNG movies/Late DS9.

Every other Uniform is impossibly crap to me, the exception being the Enterprise Jumpsuits which just aren't Trek to me.

I like the ENT uniforms and JJ's updated uniforms, especially in Beyond. I must admit I have a soft spot for the early TNG uniforms that put the dress in dress uniform. :p

I like a whole bunch of the uniforms. The TOS film uniforms, the TNG two pieces, the First Contact uniforms, the Kelvin uniforms and the ones from Countdown. I like that we get a whole lot of different choices and I like how some are a huge departure to the previous ones, like the TOS film compared to ones before and after.

The uniforms are just about the only thing I really like about the new movies.

Somewhat baggy just happens to be the style now. I remember when it wasn't so. Believability should not be an issue.

A huge problem with the DS9/Voy overalls is that they're designed for head and shoulders shots with no care taken with anything below that, which is plain featureless black. The fact that they're also baggy makes it worse.

I think that since uniforms can be replicated easily, in the person's exact size, and they presumably stretch, a precise fit would be easy to achieve, and form fitting would be more likely, since it's also more interesting looking.

Watched Tears of the Prophets today and noticed that in the wardroom scene there are two extras standing in the background in TNG uniforms, which seems odd - the grey shoulder STFC version had been in general use over a year at that point. Voyager would later confirm those uniforms were in use at Starfleet Command. Just an odd uniform discrepancy.

I like them too. They're probably my favorite. I do like the grey shouldered uniforms from the TNG movies and DS9, but they're movie uniforms. You gotta have the color scheme imo.

Although there is a one piece variant, they switch to a two piece during season 3. Janeway, Tom, and B'elanna definitely wear a two piece. Underneath the Jacket is a gray mock neck T-shirt, and underneath that is a gray tank top or undershirt. I'll try to post some pics.
Hold on just a minute sir. The later gray-shoulder uniform is almost identical. Some are coveralls, some are a two piece. If you're the Sisko, you get to where a two piece. That way you can unzip the jacket, and walk around with your phaser rifle rested on your shoulder and look like a BAMFIC.

I'll admit Tuvok's pants are a bit baggy, but he's just a wirey guy. I'd say he likes baggy pants, but Tim Russ says that rap music is responsible for the fall of Western civilization.

I'm not sure if that's a vest on underneath, but everyone in this episode has that.

So, earlier in this episode, she takes off her jacket, and her mock neck, and throws it into a weapons chest. In case anyone's wondering what she's carrying, she has a phaser rifle in one hand, a grenade in the other, and has 2 phasers on her belt.

Here's Tom Paris without his jacket on. He prefers the microfiber undershirt. He doesn't like the way the tank top makes his shoulders look.

I LOVE the desert uniform on Enterprise. We see them in the season 1 episode "Desert Crossing," then again here in the season 4 Vulcan arc.

Me too! I think the ENT desert uniforms are so cool and such an interesting concept. Those are up there on my list.

ENT uniforms seemed like the most believable of the bunch for me. But I also like the colorful TOS uniforms. The TNG uniforms had always looked like aerobics clothes to me, not something you'd expect on a space ship.

ENT uniforms made sense to me because they seemed like they were inspired by real NASA uniforms, which makes sense:

From what I've read at other sites such as Memory Alpha and Ex-Astris-Scientia the explanation is that it takes awhile for old uniforms to be phased out after a new one is introduced. I'm not really surprised considering how many Starfleet goes through after the start of TNG.

The real reason is that they wanted to save their budget by not making new costumes for extras. Generations looks very strange for having such a weird mixture of the DS9 and TNG uniforms because the majority of their budget went elsewhere. Heck, the DS9 uniforms seen in the movie are the exact same ones from the show. I believe it was Levar Burton or Jonathon Frakes who complained that their costume was too small because it was tailored for someone else. The only time the costuming seemed really odd to me in this fashion are the episodes Homefront and Paradise Lost where Sisko wears the old TNG uniform on Earth. I get that he would be the only one wearing the DS9 style but they give no explanation for the costume switch like it being part of his new job as head of security or regulation for anyone working on Earth.

Tesophius-- Do we really want a look we would expect? (On a space ship or anywhere in ST) Don't we want to play against that, and fill a show with things that defy expectations?

I made no mention of the FC-ish uniforms, but now that you've brought them up, they are a bit more form fitting, though almost featureless black below the shoulders, same problem there, and having the shoulders grey means even more color is sucked out of things.... though I prefer them. I like the "cuffs".
    ---------------
"Baggy" is relative. One cool thing about the fictional future for me was the more form fitting stuff. So to me the Voy uniforms are a bit baggy.

About mixing uniforms, when DS9 started, my impression was that their uniforms were meant for outlying outposts, and/or stationary star bases. So a starship would still have Next Gen uniforms. They blew that with Voyager.

Sorry, it I made an assumption. I like the cuffs too.

I think the DS9 uniforms were "brought aboard the starship" in Generations. I, for one , am glad they didn't use the TNG uniforms on Voyager. I also thought it was kinda neat that they kept using them, but whenever they had an episode in the Alpha Quadrant, they used the First Contact uniforms, like the EMH mk2, Barclay, etc.

I liked that too, only once they made contact with the AQ, wouldn't they have updated their uniforms?

I always thought the shirt underneath was a violet color.

My favorite uniforms are the Season 3-end TNG uniforms (except that terrible grey shirt/jacket variation Picard had sometimes), with the early DS9/VOY uniform in second place. The TMP uniforms are at the bottom.

I'm a big fan of what are normally considered "TNG style" uniforms. I believe they have aged as gracefully as Sir Patrick Stewart, and follow the iconic trend of bold divisional coloring that began on 'The Original Series'. They've also appeared on every Star Trek TV show that has followed 'The Original Series' (yes, including Enterprise!) which give them a pretty good depth of consistency across canon.

The in-universe reason is that there are several types of uniforms worn by Starfleet officers. The two most common variants can be termed as the "Service Uniform" and the "Utility Uniform". So-called "TNG style" uniforms can be categorized as the former, with "DS9/VOY style" uniforms being the latter. The gray shouldered uniform that was popularized in films from First Contact forward, and on later seasons of 'Deep Space Nine', was an updated variant of the Utility Uniform that replaced the colored shoulder variant that had been worn previously. The "TNG style" Service Uniform was never actually phased out in Starfleet usage.

Runners up for favorite uniform for me would be the maroon colored uniform worn in TOS-era films from 'The Wrath Of Khan' forward. Like TNG's uniforms, I think it has also aged very well, if you maybe got rid of the hilariously bloused bell bottom pant legs tucked into the boots. While it is a bit on the militaristic looking side of things (not to my taste when it comes to Starfleet), it is nontheless very iconic in design, and has been paid homage across many platforms (Ex: 'Futurama')

Second runner up would be the jumpsuit uniforms worn on 'Enterprise'. I think it strings together Starfleet's origins as the successor organization to NASA and other various Earth space agencies, while still carrying cues to future iterations of Star Trek uniforms.
