Let's celebrate Neelix!

Lynx

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Born 8 February 2337 (Stardate 14104.14)

Comment: According to Memory Beta, Neelix was born in 2337. The day and month of birth is the same as actor Ethan Phillips.

So let's have a toast and celebrate Our Favorite Talaxian!

Neelix and Tuvok .. love their scenes together.
Me too!

Those scenes were always funny, like this one in "Tuvix":

NEELIX: Oh, smell that air, Mister Vulcan. Look at that sky. Oh, it's an exhilarating day, isn't it?
TUVOK: As you well know by now, Mister Neelix, I do not experience exhilaration.
NEELIX: Oh, let's not quibble about semantics. A breeze is blowing. The sun is shining. It's beautiful.
TUVOK: The weather is certainly adequate for our purposes.
NEELIX: Adequate? You know something? You're acting more Tuvokian than usual this morning.
TUVOK: I am who I am, Mister Neelix. It is impossible for me to be more or less like myself.
NEELIX: There you go with the semantics again. But you know what I'm talking about.
TUVOK: I'm afraid I don't.
NEELIX: Well, then I'll explain it to you. You're a nature lover, aren't you?
TUVOK: I appreciate nature, yes.
NEELIX: Then it's one of the things that you and I have in common. And here we are, on a perfect day, foraging for an exceptionally lovely variety of orchid, your favourite flower, and all you can say about the experience is that it's adequate. I just, I don't see why you're not having fun.
TUVOK: We are not here to have fun. We are here to collect samples.
NEELIX: Why, is there some regulation that says we can't do both at the same time? I know. Why don't, why don't we sing a song while we toil, hmm? It'll cheer you up. Now, I've been studying Vulcan music. Do you know that lovely tune that starts, (sings) Oh starless night of boundless black.
TUVOK: That lovely tune is a traditional funeral dirge.
NEELIX: I know, but it was the most cheerful song I could find in the Vulcan database. Come on, Tuvok, join me. Oh starless night of boundless black.
TUVOK: Mister Neelix.
NEELIX: Yes?
TUVOK: Do you think you could possibly behave a little less like yourself?

Well done Lynx. That's what I relate to most about Voyager, it's the character combinations. The little pair ups that have their own history. Janeway and Tuvok, Torres and Chakotay. They're not romantic as such (ignoring B'elanna's fantasies that one time) more like old friends. Then the new combinations that being on Voyager created. Harry and Tom. The Doctor and Seven. Tuvok and Neelix. Kes and the Doctor, Kes and Tuvok.

In some ways I always thought Harry tended toward being arrogant though. Dismissive. He was down right insubordinate with Tuvok at times and oh so superior with the Doctor, but that's another subject. Back to Neelix though, he was such an optimist.

The characters are what first drew me to Voyager and what ultimately made it my favorite. They seem more complex and more "real" than characters from the other shows.

It's weird but I enjoyed the episode with Tuvix but he lost me when he tried to guilt Janeway to not revert him back to Tuvok and Neelix. I kept thinking suck it up and let the other two get on with their lives. Tuvix was an anomaly not a real life. I wish I felt more sympathy for him but he was like some poor soul who has messed with plastic surgery and ruined their face. You know there's a human being beneath the outside but all you can see is something not quite right.

It helps that Tuvix had nothing that was unique to him but really was a (very well crafted) combination of Tuvok and Neelix.

Back to the thread:
I kinda love Neelix. He was often the class clown but underneath that he was complex, trusting, always wanting to bring a smile to someone's face.
