First look at Klingons in 'Star Trek: Discovery'?

The slight amount of the bridge we can see in the teaser shows a bridge that is nothing like the Cage. Touchscreens everywhere, low light levels, very blue and dark grey but modern styles, large structural supports dividing key areas.

That in itself is no big deal: just shows there was a wide variety of bridge styles back then too. Bridges can be swapped out and replaced on the fly, so maybe some of them are just more advanced than others.

And I admit I'm glad that these "Klingons" are probably not Klingons. Not so much because they're different, I just think they're ugly.

Wasn't the Klingon premise supposed to be about uniting the different houses? Could these be the "main" Klingon house focused on in the series, as we see different iterations of Klingons from different houses in the background? It would be a nice touch if each house could have different looking Klingons from over the years.

How do you know?

Well, he's got a 50/50 chance of being right. Either they're Klingons or they aren't. But...

1. The guy who took the photo said they were;

2. And he later retracted that statement after possibly getting fired. Hmmmm....

3. The outfits look uncannily similar to the concept art of the "Klingon sarcophagus ship" to the point where people are assuming that's where they're from.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to connect the dots here.

How do you know? The poor sucker who "leaked" the photos admitted he just guessed they were...

How could anyone think they're not Klingons? For all the worrying that they look too different, they've kept a lot of the visual markers we're used to from Prime Klingons.

They have
-Dark brown skin
-Cranial ridges
-Layered silver armor
-A heavy emphasis on ridges in the costume
-Upper body armor that folds over the shoulders to hang down front and back

Those all scream Klingon to me. To my eye, they've done a good job of preserving many design cues while updating the look to match modern Hollywood expectations.

I'm a millennial who absolutely doesn't mind reimagining the look of Trek. In a way I wish it would be retro-modern like jjtrek, though. Love the jjtrek starfleet uniforms for example.
And the sleek sci-fi look of the sets compared to bloody submarines in space Nick Meyer gave us.

Having said that I don't particularly love the new klingon look. I want Trek to not be just gritty but also fun to watch and comfy. The new klingons look very gritty to me. Unlike the hard-drinking giant Lord of the Rings dwarves in TNG.

In any case it's really not important .they're welcome to change more stuff. And please make Romulans sexy again. :p

Well... The bony protrusions under the eyes, as well as the non-humanoid ears, look a bit odd to me. If they really are Klingons, then I could see an "in-universe" explanation of them being a subspecies or more ancient variety or something. If there's no explanation, then oh well.

I kind of wished we could have seen some of the early concepts for JJVerse Klingons on screen. Those were pretty bad-a**.

I don't know if these are Klingons or not. I don't care as much as I care for the design being hideous and I want to see as little of it as I possibly can. I can only hope that it's not Saru's race or maybe it's some protoKlingons or some other race we'll not get to see alot off. Plus it looks way too much like other races both of Trek and other franchises(Xindi, Dracs, somewhat like the Draconians of Who as someone suggested) and even conspiracy Theory Earth related ones.

Sure, its early to tell which one is who or what, but if they're going to redesign alien looks, I expect MUCH better.

They are not Klingons.

Yeah, even if he hadn't said Klingons in the original post, that's probably still what most people would have assumed they were.
