...with an endless supply of third bridges. Where DO they keep them all? :D

    Is this confirmed?!

If so that's a BIG LOSS for me as I've supported the English subbed BD's for Yamato 2199 and Macross Delta, the Frontier movies, etc.

Dunno if I'll be collecting Yamato 2202 if it's true. :(

Give it time...We might not see them as quickly as before, but there have been subsequent re-releases and recent re-packagings of 2199. It might not be in the first generation of discs that come out, but I suspect that later generations might have additional language options. I just hope they don't appear as "all your base"-level quality when they do. Some Chinese and Malay bootlegs are infamous for that.

It's weird they'd change it on this release though (IMO) because these days I thought Bandi was putting English subtitles on all their region free Blu-Ray discs because they love when people like me go and pay the equivalent of $70+ U.S. per disc -but as has been stated above maybe I was looking too soon because I thought the 2/25 date on all the on-line posters was the Blu-Ray/DVD release dates, and it's not, it's the theatrical release date of the first Volume. The Blu-Rays/DVDs release in late March; and someone mentioned they didn't announce English Subtitles were on the Blu-Rays until 3 weeks or so prior to release..

Well, you need someone fluently bilingual on the payroll to do the actual translation. Running it through Google usually results in a jumbled mess. It's possible that they simply don't have anyone - right now - to do the work. You'd think they would have someone on retainer at all times because, like you say, Bandai loves the income from the West. Don't know. I agree that none of it makes any sense. Then again, $70 for a single blu-ray disc doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me either, but I guess that's just a thing with Japanese animation. Another reason I'm going to wait until I can get the whole series at once at a (hopefully) reduced rate on eBay, like I did with 2199, with a better chance of the translations being there on down the line.

I would even be willing to pay extra for Voyager's versions if they would just get off their asses and start making the damn discs again! :scream:

Well, in all honesty, the English subtitle job on the SBY2199 Blu-Rays is very good. They had the occasional typo (I spotted 3 across all the discs - and to me it appeared that the person who did the translation had a good grasp of colloquial English.)

About the only thing that really kept jumping around in the subtitling was how to spell "Gamilas" and its derivatives. It took them and the translators a few discs to settle on a spelling.

The third bridge in Yamato 2199 is the ship's gravity plating generator and shield generator. It hasn't gotten blown off at all. Heavily damaged once in the major battle of the series, but not destroyed. The writers felt that since that is part of the ship's keel, losing that should be fatal or nearly fatal for a ship. Plus they probably use to make those jokes about the third bridge while they were in high school.

Thing is, it appears to be running way from Andromeda. Like it is trying to get away into a warp.
(This might be a conception of the scene and the final production version is a little bit smaller.)

Guess we will find out in a week or so when the 12 minute preview start to show up.

I dunno - looks to me almost like a broadsides engagement to me, of a kind seen between 18th & 19th century sailing ships. Both vessels appear to be running parallel without any perspective distortion or foreshortening that would imply that one vessel was off-vector from the other. What's interesting is that none of Andromeda's turrets appear to be turned towards the other ship. They're all in "station keeping" mode for some odd reason. If I was that close to one of those monsters I'd be opening up with everything I have - balls-out and throttle-up.

Perhaps it was closing on Andromeda, then it started to warp, which would be unexpected. It barely misses Andromeda which than fired her aft batteries (which we see in the trailer) at it as it enters warp.

There is another image of this Cometine battleships

Perhaps coming out of warp after brushing aside the two cruisers it flies past Kodai's ships seen here. Falldown to Earth suggests she's going to try to suicide into Earth. Might be what the unfinished Yamato is shooting at in the trailers.

Curious. I wonder what "AAA" stands for?

Yamato's designation, IIRC, was "SBY-01", which made sense, as the "SB" was the space battleship class-type designation and Yamato, being the first (-01), would have the honor of the "Y" in the name as the ship-of-the-line. If subsequent ships were built off that design, they would be SBY-02, SBY-03 and so forth. This naturally expands upon established nautical tradition, just like "CA" or "HC" are used to designate heavy cruisers, "DD" for destroyers, "DL" or "FF" for frigates, "CV" for aircraft carriers, etc. There's a nice break-down of historical and current naval class designations here. Of course, this is USN, but I believe both American and Japanese navy traditions are based largely from a common tie to the Royal Navy of the UK, so it should track pretty well.

Now we have "AAA". What does this mean, exactly? Is there something in the text of that post that defines what the acronym stands for? Based on established canon, the Andromeda and sister ships should follow the convention SBA-0x, or maybe go back to the more traditional "BBA-0x" for the historic battleship designation. But "AAA"? Apologies in advance if anyone finds this somewhat pedantic, but I'm honestly not getting that one.

    I don't know why.

Though to be fair, those wave motion guns do a lot more than anything else we've seen before.

Yamato was BBY-01. The Kongo-type were BBS, the Cruisers CAS, and the Destroyers were DDS.

BBY could mean prototype (like in military aircraft), or Y because it was called Yamato and it was definitely something over the older BBS ships.

Maybe Andromeda is a take on the never built Arsenal Ship type. Just instead of missiles it is twin wave motion guns and a lot of shock cannons.
