My only real gripe is that the choppiness wasn't something they tried to fix in reshoots, it is actually a result of the reshoots.

If both of their intros were written in after principle shooting was done, then that excuse holds absolutely no blue milk.

This is one of my bigger criticisms of the film. There are way too many locations, and if labels were necessary, that should have been the tip off that there were way too many locations.

It isn't like a real world movie, were you get a brief label tag so you have some idea of location and possibly relevant geography or politics. It's simply a label, and a distracting one, at that, since it was so inconsistently used.

Very distracting and frustrating.
I don't think the location tags were necessary at all. They're just fanservice because fans like to know these things. But it's harmless fanservice. If it bothers you that much, you can look in a different direction instead of at the text.

I just realized Rogue One kinda screws up the Machete Order. If you're brand new to Star Wars and you watch this movie before ANH you'll probably be completely lost.

However, it fits perfectly with my proposed order:
4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, RO, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. I like this order because the original trilogy is simply worth watching twice.

That being said, I'm sure there will be someone who will test out Rogue One first on someone and it seems to at least be less spoilery than other options.

Like I said, it's not a perfect solution and it's easy to point out mistakes in hindsight. There's always a trade-off with this kind of thing, what matters is if it was worth it or not. Personally, I think we're better off with what we got than what they'd initially filmed. No doubt once the BluRay comes out and we see some of the alternate footage this will bear out.

I'd be pretty surprised if we see much of that cut footage.
They've never been shy about cut footage or alternate takes before. The RotS DVD had at least one of Shaak Ti's two deaths, there was a bunch of scenes in the Force Awakens BR. Hell, deleted scenes are one of the most popular features, which is why it seems the deliberately held some back for the TFA double dip when the 3DBR came out.

I'm guessing we'll get the extra "what will you become!?" scene between Saw and Little Jyn from the prologue, some of the extra Baze and Chirrut dialogue on Eadu, maybe even some of the alternate Vader/Krennic dialogue. I don't the the alternate briefing scene would be too much of an ask.

That likely cannot be Leia for real life reasons.
If it was meant to be Leia than blast it make it Leia. Leia Organa should not die with Carrie Fisher. There is no reason not to recast her. If she had died during a production that might be one thing.

We can start episode IX with a new Dumbledore.

If Richard Harris and his likeness had been synonymous with the role of Dumbledore for going on four decades and passed away one film before the end, you may have a valid point. He did not, and thus neither do you.

That is not my quote.
It's also not what I posted. Sorry. And when I went to edit it I was shown what I DID post. ODD.

And as said above, the titles in a spy movie or a war movie actually matter because each setting already has context for the audience. In this case the audience has no context for Wobani or Jedha. They're blank slates. Establish why we should care through dialogue, not shortcuts.

I disagree. The titles are meant to show the audience that these are real places. You might not know where "Lisbon" is either. But you figure someone knows. Kind of like telling you what stardate it is in another popular sci-fi series.

What I am wondering, if where they will go after Episode IX...the third Anthology film. Will they continue with known events and character set around the OT period, or will they try for something in the ST or PT eras? Or go radical and go for an Old Republic era film, or a post-Episode IX film that doesn't involve the main storyline characters?

I've been wondering that too. I enjoyed RO more than I expected to and as a Han fan (Fan Solo?), I'm looking forward to his, er, solo movie. But part of me think that Star Wars needs to get away from prequels and its past. Or if they don't want to spoil the ongoing main series by telling tales in that era, there's a huge gap between ROTJ and TFA that could be filled.

I'll admit, I'd gladly sit through an Obi-Wan movie with McGregor or a film about Vader hunting down the Jedi (especially after RO's final scenes). But let's explore a bit more of that galaxy far, far away.

PS This probably puts me in a minority of precisely one, but I want to see Charles Dance play a younger Count Dooku in his Jedi days.

^ If, with all that's going on in the world, that brings you to despair, you have some odd priorities. Nice also of you to omit the part of my post which makes it clear that I'd rather see other stories.

Just a side note here, for anyone who doesn't know, Shaak Ti's canon death is at the temple killed by Anakin while meditating.

It is in the Blu-Ray release's deleted scenes I think.

While that is possible, that is not quite the logical progression of a story surrounding one family across generations. First Anakin, then Luke and Leia, now Ben. The question is, "will they continue on to an Episode X after this trilogy?" To do so they need to have a Skywalker of some sort. And if this is still generational, than the sequel to the sequel trilogy would either need to be about Ben following the events of Episodes VII - IX, or it has to follow up to the next generation, which should mean that either Ben is redeemed (and/or procreates), or there is another Skywalker (who will be doing the eventual procreating so their will be a next generation). Assuming of course that the sequel trilogy doesn't just become a run-on story were the same character continue on from film to film after Episode IX (at which point the story of Finn, Rey, Poe, and Ben could continue onwards like the older EU novels did for the Heroes of Yavin and followed them around for decades even after they had kids) If the story isn't going to be centered on the antagonist Ben, but is centered on Rey...than logically, she should be the Skywalker. However, with the Prequel Trilogy could be argued that the story told was centered on Obi-wan Kenobi, not Anakin Skywalker. And Kenobi was not the Skywalker (obviously). So it is possible that she is not a Skywalker, but that also means that Ben's survival is the only way to continue the series to the next generation (unless he like rapes Rey or something, and that would be terrible for a Star War film).

Yeah, I saw Pablo answer that question about 57 times in the last few weeks. Must be an thread on reddit or something.

Of course, since it's yet to be depicted nothing is really stopping them from changing their minds if the right story comes along. Yes, I know it's glimpsed in Yoda's vision on Dagobah but then so was Obi-Wan fighting clones alongside Windu, Luminara, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto and Eeth Koth and we know that never happened. Always in motion is the future...and the past. ;)
I despair at the thought that anyone thinks this would be a good movie.
It could work if it was told from the perspective of those being hunted. Not that it'd be my first choice mind!

Maybe now it is.

But back in the pre-Disney sale days, her "final" canon death was in the video game The Force Unleashed.

Wouldn't the audience automatically assume they are real places?

Unless you count the first 30 years of Star Wars. ;)

But you may very well be right. I hope so. I'm thinking that there being so much alternate material this time as opposed to straight deleted stuff that we'll just get five minutes of it and that's it.
